He's got 315's on stock wheels with a T-bar crank. I've heard and from searching that 305's is pushing it on factory wheels?

 

Maybe someone can shed the light for me on this topic?

It didnt look like there was a body lift, judging from the very slight gap under the bed...

Lot's of people around here run the 315's on factory rims,especially farmers.A body lift is not needed just some minor trimming and cranking of the t bars.If you keep them inflated properly the MTR's will wear fine, some people claim by running the wider tires on factory rims they will wear irregular.I am running my third set of goodyear MT /R and have yet to have this problem arise so I consider it to be a myth or a product of bad tire maintenance.

Mr2500HD-The 1500HD's and 2500HD's have the taller frame and have better tire clearance from the get go and leaves some frame showing that looks like a body lift. But you know this because you have one.

A little T-bar cranking and/or green 1500 keys can get you a little more lift and clearance.

 

I did notice a little "squirreliness" when I went to 285 D's on OEM alloys, but I'm getting used to it. I'm running 60psi front and 63psi rear. On my last set of tires which were 265 BFG's, I rotated every 6K-8K and got pretty even tire wear. I replaced them at 38K and they still had plenty of tread left. I sold them for $100.00.

 

And the only problem is finding a shop that will mount them for you. I think the real secret is to rotate often.

I'm somewhat torn between keeping the factory wheels or getting the chrome h2 wheels. Either way It's going to be between 285's and 315's...lol

maybe its just me, but those tires look way to big. I agree, that he is going to notice all kinds of low end loss with those dogs. 265's, and some 285's look great....anything bigger than that and i cant justify the power loss. Whats that gonna put his rear ratio at? If he had 3.73's with the 245's....he probably lookin at 3.20's or less right? Man, i hope he does a lot of DOWNHILL driving, cause he is gonna be gear searchin like crazy.

I'm lucky enough to have 4.11's.....285's or even 305's wont kill it...lol

 

Here's a stupid question ...

 

The truck comes with 16" rims, If I put a 17" rim and say 285's, wouldnt that technically give me "more lift" than with 16" tires and 285's? I'm curious if it's going to be higher than with 16" rims.

even with the 4.10's....i would imagine after mounting a set of 315's on there, you would be looking at low 3.30's for a gear ratio. There was a conversion chart around someplace, i will see if i can dig it up.

I was a little off. Still looks like it gonna put you down to the low 3.60's though. You WILL be able to tell a difference between 4.10 and 3.60. I guess if you dont have to many hills and dont do much towing it really wont matter though. Looks like you drop .15 for every inch of height increase.

I dont want to loose the towing capabilities, nor the power. I'll probally stick with 285's or 305's .....now to decide on the wheels and I'll be set ;)

His 305/70's have an OD of 33". My 285/75's have an OD of 32.8". Not much difference. Mine effective gear ratio dropped from 4.10 to 3.81. I do not have a programmer like Shotgun, So he is able to adjust speedometer and shift points. Mine does O.K. but I'd like to get a Nelson tune or a programmer to correct.

 

It is also pretty flat in Louisiana. Other than Interstate overpasses, he's have to drive 300 miles to get to any sizable hills. I think he's O.K. as long as he rotates often.

I recently put a set of 265 Nitto's on my 01' 2500HD. They are on the factory rims and they are working out great. Even going one size bigger made a big difference in how my truck looks. I went with the 265's so I could get the "E" load range. Check them out:

 

 

 

No power loss with these tires at all. Mostly because I also upgraded to a Wester's 93 Octane hot tune the same day....

It looks great with bigger tires, BUT I like my truck to be unique----turn heads like the ZR2 did. It'll just take alittle more $ with this truck..lol
