Stock CD - Won't play

I have a '98 Sierra with the AM/FM with cassette separate CD player. Just recently started having problems with the CD player. When I insert a disc a "Err" message is displayed on the radio and then the CD gets ejected.

 

Anyone have this problem or know if it can be fixed?

Have you played any CDs with paper labels in it? Sometimes the paper label come off in the player causing problems.

are you trying to play regular store bought cd's or cd-r's? i noticed that some cd player (my friends volkswagon) has a very difficult time playing cd-r's. or maybe it needs to be cleaned or have it (i think it's the servo) adjusted.

I have tried playing both cd-r's and store bought cd's, neither seem to work. Until recently, I didn't have any trouble with any type of cd. I also tried a lens cleaner cd, but it would get spit back out like the others.

 

What is this about adjusting the servo? Is that something I can do?

you'll have to take you cd player to a reputable car stereo shop. i think what they will do is adjust the servo which re-aligns the laser.

 

do you have a multi-cd player or a single cd player. i'm just thinking it may be cheaper just to replace the cd player. just a thought.

I have the single disk player. I'll have to stop in a stereo shop and see what they want to fix it.

 

What does a used cd player go for?

it looks like they are selling for around $75-$100 on eBay. here's one listing:

if you don't mind doing some mods (making the opening little wider), you might even consider getting the 6 cd changer. i got mine off eBay for $110.
