Burton sponsor needs approval

Roush Racing is reportedly in negotiations with a full-time sponsor for the No. 99. The problem is that the sponsor is a company that wants to showcase a brand of liquor, which is currently not approved by NASCAR.

Sponsors such as Smirnoff Ice are acceptable since they are a type of malt liquor, more akin to beer.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

In my opinion this is stupid. This is the same thing that happened to Kenny Wallace a couple years ago, Crown Royal offered to sponsor him and NASCAR wouldn't let them. There's not a big enough difference between Bud, Coors, Miller, Smirnoff Ice and any of the liquor companies to matter. They're always saying that the cost of racing is keeping sponsors away and now there is someone willing to pay the cost and they might not get too. I'm not a Rousch Racing fan at all, but Burton is a good enough driver to deserve a sponsor when he can find one.

I think it's funny, seeing as how Crown Royal is now the title sponsor of IROC.

 

But I agree, there's not big enough of a difference between Beer and Liquor. Let him use it.
