Running a bit cold?

Well I don't know if this is right or not, but my Blazer has always ran at 160 degrees when it is fully warmed up. It the truck in my sig. My Mom's Dodge Ram Van always gets right up to 200-210 when it is warmed up, so I have no idea on this.

The gauges on these arent that accurate.

Now it could be a bad sending unit or thermostat.

To check the stat put in a pan of water on the stove and bring it up in temp while watching a thermometer, see at which temp it opens to see how thw thermostat is. If its not the stat more than likely the sending unit.

Gauges are definitely questionable.

I doubt your thermostat would cause you to run that much cooler while operating accessories in the summertime.My personal opinion,it's probably that the gauge its self is out of calibration.

That's like my old Blazer. It too runs around ~160. I know this can't be accurate at all. I've been thinking about working on the gauge or sending unit. Anyone have any info on this truck, it's an 84' S10?

4.3's run hot inheritenly. Even ones that run cooler than normal only run in the 190's with a stock t-stat.

I wouldn't rule out your temp sending unit, but it seems more a calibration issue with your gauge cluster. On top of which, the temp gauge on our dashes really isn't an evenly marked gauge. A more accurate way to read it would be to TechII or AutoTap it and see what the PCM feed is reading.
