Noise from front end

During the past two or three weeks I've began to hear on occasion a rubbing noise from the front end of my truck. I was wondering if it might be the infamous intermediate steering shaft, and if I can describe the problem get your opinions.

I've had two previous trucks a 97 Ford and 99 Silverado that both had ISS problems and with both it felt like there was something lose in the shaft and you could feel a "thunk" through the steering wheel. BUT THIS IS DIFFERENT

It occurs at low speed usually when pulling into a parking lot space or when backing my stubby little lawn mower trailer and am moving the steering wheel back in forth to keep the trailer straight. It souunds like metal to metal scrubbing. The truck isn't in four wheel drive and it doesn't sound like a drivetrain issue. It will usually do it once and then I won't hear it for a day or two, or maybe a week. Again it only happens at low speed. Is this another symptom of the intermediate steering shaft or do I look somewhere else? Thanks in advance for the help...

i am not sure if it is the same thing or not, but i was getting some extra noise when i was going real slow and cranking the wheel all the way (or close to it). I changed the power steering fluid (best I could w/o doing a full flush) and the noise disapeared.
