Please help with key fob program

Recommended Posts

I have recently purchased a new key fob and need to find the programming instructions. My dad told me how to program one for a Silverado but when I followed those directions it would not accept the new programming. The registration number on the back of the key fob says GM/LEAR 25695955, FCC ID: KOBLEAR1XT. This key fob was reported to work on the 2001 Jimmy's any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you.

You had one fob already and got another one, right? Match the numbers on the one you had to the one you got. If you didn't have one already, the truck may not have RKE, so programming the remote isn't all you'll need to do.

Here is the programming method for a 2001 Jimmy 4WD:

1. Get in truck and close all doors

2. Put key in ignition

3. Press and hold the door unlock switch

4. While holding door unlock swich, cycle ignition 2 times, ON-OFF-ON-OFF

5. Release the door unlock switch, the door locks should lock and unlock to confirm the programming mode

6. Press and hold the LOCK and UNLOCK buttons simultaneously on one transmitter. After a delay of approximately 15 seconds the doors will lock and unlock to confirm the programming of that transmitter

7. Repeat step 6 for each additional transmitter (up to 4), including any you had before.

8. Turn key to RUN to exit programming mode.

9. Operate the transmitter functions to ensure correct system operation.

This is directly from my GM service manual on CD...

Went back and looked, it's the same procedure as for a 2001 Sierra 4WD, so your truck may not have the RKE module to accept the programming or your transmitter may be wrong. Look in your glovebox for codes AU0 or UA6, this will tell you if you have either of 2 RKE systems.

The AU0 system will work with a transmitter that has the padlock symbols on it or one that spells out Lock and Unlock on the buttons, both have buttons for the rear hatch. The UA6 system only works with the transmitter that spells out Lock and Unlock on the buttons. I can't help you to verify you have the correct transmitter for your vehicle, beyond what I've described above.
