flashing brake light

my brake light was flashing a code I don't have the codes for the brake system, it was 4, 15 times , then one 3 then back to the 4's? does this make sense to anyone?

Is this happening on the '89 you have listed in your info?

If so you should only have rear wheel anti-lock...according to a Chiltons diagnostic flow chart I have,they say to hook up a TECH 1 or equivalent to check the codes..

OR you can jump the "A" and "H" pins of the ALDL connector under the dash to get the codes by reading the flashing brake light....any how here r the codes:

 

Code 2: open isolation solenoid or EBCM malfunction

Code 3: open dump solenoid or ECBM malfunction

Code 4: grounded anti-lock pressure valve rest switch

Code 5: excessive dump valve actuations during anti-lock stop

Code 6: erratic speed signal

Code 7: shorted isolation solenoid or ECBM malfunction

Code 8: shorted dump solenoid or ECBM malfunction

Code 9: open or grounded speed signal circuit

Code 10: stop lamp switch circuit

Codes 1, 11 and 12: invalid diagnostic trouble codes

Codes 13, 14 and 15: electric brake control module (ECBM) malfunction

 

You could also clear the codes by removing the "STOP/HAZARD" fuse for at least 5 sec. and see if it may reset...

I would also suggest that you get a repair manual to verify the above information for yourself, it would also detail the procedures for diagnosing the problem...the components of this system are REPLACE ONLY items, and I would hate for you to waste money if the diagnosis is incorrect and the problem comes back after replacing parts.....Hope this helps..GOOD LUCK
