Anybody tried Seafoam cleaner???

Recommended Posts

After reading posts on this and other sites I'm anxious to know if anyone has used Seafoam cleaner in the intake, gas, and/or oil and their experiences with the product. I've read some really good things about this, (especially on the F**d board)

Ford Seafoam discussion

Anybody had any bad experences with seafoam (not Fords :banghead: ) Thinking about using this in my truck, but would like to hear about how this works with the General's trucks.

I've used it for about three years and it seems about as good as anything I have used. It usually comes well recommended by most parts houses. It a little pricey but I also believe you get what you pay for most of the time.

Hey guys...

Im nervous about pouring anything but gas into my tank or ingesting it up the vacuum hose...

Would doing something like this SEAFOAM void a warranty?

Anybody have any comments on this? thanks

Good stuff. Use the SeaFoam screw-top can through your booster vac line or PCV line. Then take the intake off, open the TB blade and spray SeaFoam Deep Creep into your intake. Let it sit for a while then go drive it. Works quite well!

I have never used it on my truck because i was affraid of it causing harm to the plastic intake manifold. Although i really wanted too. I have "been involded" with it on many vehicals and it made a HUGE difference!!! A 1988 izuzu trooper II, old 5.0L ford 150 (had amazing results, i mean :banghead: ), a 5.0L single cab chevy truck, a '89 vette, 96 f150, early 90's mazda protage, among others.....

It says (from what i remember) use a 1/4 can in the oil, 1/4 can in the gas, and 1/2 the can in the vacum line from the brakes.

In my exprience, we used the whole can in the brake vacuum line, 1 guy pouring lightly, and 1 guy keeping engine alive via gas petal. There will be tonns of white smoke pouring out tail pipe!!!!!!!!!!!!!!(seafoam plus carbon). when can is gone, turn off motor for 5-10minutes, then start it up (might need slight gas petal to start) and drive the crap out of it untill white smoke is gone...

If you really needed it, you will feel a fairily big difference in engine operation!!!!!!!

Well I decided to go ahead and try the seafoam. Wow! What a smoke show. I'm not sure what it did but it did burn something off. I put about 8 oz through the PCV hose and let the truck sit for about 25 minutes. It took about 3 trys to get it started, and when it did...... THE SMOKE! I drove it hard for about 5-6 miles and the smoke finally quit. I poured the other 8 oz and another 16 oz bottle into the gas (about 3/4 full) and have driven the truck about 100 miles. Maybe it's my imagination, but it sure does feel more responsive. For $4.89 a bottle if for no other reason, the smoke show is worth it.

Can using SeaFoam damange seals or anythign like that? I'm considering using it on my 2000 Yukon with 67K miles, but I jsut want to make sure there won't be any drawbacks or damage by doing so.

Also, in addition to putting it in the gas tank (you just dump it in through the fill hole?), is the other best place to use it in the PCV? To do that, do you just pull out the PCV valve and dump it down in there?

If anyone could post some pictures on where to add it, please do.

What are the major benefits of using it -- does it just clear out carbon build-up or what?

Thanks!

Seafoam is very aggressive.

I would be careful using it.

My buddy put it in his 98.5 Dodge diesel and his dads 01 Dodge Diesel. Both of their injection pumps died within 2 days.

I would not recommend it in a diesel. I think it is a little too agressive.

I personally won't use it. Chevron Fuel System cleaner is good stuff, and I would recommend that.

Umm.... most GM parts are all clear-coated from the factory (even the intake parts) --- seafoam may strip this clearcot :banghead: not good. perhaps something that is more specific to GM would be preferable-- even if the price is slightly higher.

    • Which one, the AT or AS?   Starfire is made by Cooper/Goodyear but at $85/tire I'd think I'd need to level-set my expectations that they may not even be round 😉 But you're saying they're decent?   I'm already into this thing $1506 in parts, fluids, etc. Totaled all my receipts today. $250 of that was replacing an EGR and MAP sensor that were probably fine, but I'm not going to return the parts since they've been installed. I'm cheap, but not that cheap. I use it, I keep it!   I may or may not make money if I sell the truck at this point, but, that wasn't really the point. And if I billed my time, I'd be hosed for real. My thought on the tires is I "might" put 1,000 miles on before selling it. I just don't want to put absolute junk on it, that doesn't do anyone any good. If the Solus solidly isn't junk, I'll definitely consider them.
    • I leave mine as is. I'm always a trip away from riding on unpaved roads. Dealer can clean it when they prep it after I trade it in for another new truck.
    • I have these on two vehicles and love them. Pepper is one of them 😉
    • 4WD. Far as I know it came stock with P's and not LT's. Definitely planning to put P's on it, but stock is a 109 XL load rating so I should probably stick within that guideline.   No rebates on anything I can see at the moment. Discount Tire is offering $50 off, but Pep Boys is very competitive on price, and also carries all the off-brand stuff. Les Schwab always wants an arm/leg, but they do good work.   It still has the original spare. Goodyear Wrangler RT/S, thing looks like a tractor tire LOL!! How times have changed.
    • 2020 Sierra 2500 HD (base model) gas engine 4wd.    All 4 windows roll down on their own. Happens somewhat randomly after stop and engine off - when engine turned off, when walking away from vehicle before or after locks activated. Pulled the window fuse F14 Instrument Panel Fuse Block Right; the driver's side still activates from driver's side door panel; passenger and back seat windows activate from local switches on their doors but not from driver's side group of switches. Power mirrors don't activate with fuse removed either (same fuse for both circuits). Problem not solved.    How can they even activate with fuse removed but they are all still opening and can control from each door?  When they open on their own, I can shut them from the switch in each door, but they don't stay closed.    Seems to be activated somehow with key fob; something bumping the key fob in my pocket or just handling - removed key fob and took it far enough away and now the windows stay closed. Replaced key fob batty just in case, no change.    Sounds like some kind of wiring short or maybe electronics. Dealer will first replace electronic control module without checking anything else and I anticipate problem will still exist since their troubleshooting skills are limited to "do whatever the computer says".  In any case, keyfob seems to be activating the circuitry.    Surely I'm not the only one with this issue, but I can't find anything related on the site. What do yall think?   JohnRoy
