Frame rail coating

Does anyone know exactly what GM uses to coat the frame rails? It's a black greasy tar-like substance. After repeated tire rotations, my jack has worn off some of this coating and rust is starting to appear. I would like to recoat the frame rail in these areas with the same stuff the factory uses. What the heck is it?

Me to. I went to autozone and asked if they had any. They looked at me like I was crazy

Well. I did a search, and someone mentioed that "Boeshield T-9" stuff. Anyone know where I can get that locally....? Or , does anyone have any more recommendations. I don't want to spray rubberized coating underneath there. I want to stay with the wax stuff that came factory.

T-9 is used in the marine industry for boats. Try there.

It is called Nox Rust 121B from Daubert Chemical.

Thanks guys. Boeshield is not what I'm looking for. I work in the marine industry. Boeshield is a very thin spray on lube, like WD-40. And by the way, it don't work worth a s**t.

I purchased my 03 on 11/20/02. That stuff is almost completely gone now, at 1 1/2 years old. Is it supposed to stay on?

Same here, when I changed my fuel filter last weekend, there is a spot from where the gas hit it. I know gas is mildly corrosive, but wow! The stuff is weak!

The hard part is getting it. I'd like to buy a can of it but so far have not found a way to get a single can of it.

It is the solvent properties of gasolines that removes the petroleum based coating on frame rails.

Yep all kinds of stuff in gas (or diesel) that will dissolve it. heptane, xylene, toluene. Too bad they don't line-x them instead..

I touch mine up with a can of that rubberized undercoating. I'm not so concerned about look and it does the job. Actually, the look is fairly close.
