Paint for trans cooler?

Recommended Posts

Gonna be installing a PermaCool 17,000 GVW trans cooler soon, but the darn thing is aluminum and don't want it to look like crap through the grill. I think that a flat black will be fine. Does anybody have any suggestions for a good high temp spray paint that won't sacrifice cooling ability and won't flake off?

Painting it flat black (not a real thick coating either) will actually enhance its abilty to disipate heat. Flat are better than glossy for this and I have done it for years.

Engine paint will stick better and hold up a bit longer too.

I have just used regular cheap generic flat black with good results.

Check with a local radiator repair shop to see wha they use. It's probably a cheap flat black lacquer that's sprayed on fairly thin.

I have always used a spray on enamel for this. It seems to take heat better and the heat cures it too.
