8.1 Suburban owners please step inside

My dealer hasn't been able to answer these questions so I figured someone on the net might know

What does the tailpipe and tip look like? I know that the HD trucks get a pretty large tailpipe (no added exhaust tip) but haven't seen what the 8.1 Suburbans have.

Are your fender flares painted or black, smooth or rough? I believe some colors come with painted flarges and some are black. My Indigo Blue '01 came with black that didn't have a smooth finish so I had to order another set to be painted.

I know on the HD's it is the same exhaust for the 6.0L as the Duramax. Maybe it is the same on the Subs????

The flare option is probably the same as all other trucks, with green, pewter, white (and maybe another color) getting colormatched flares and all others getting black. What color is your new sub going to be?

The dealer about 10 miles from here has a red 8.1L sub on his lot (last time I checked). I could run down there and snap a few pics if you'd like? Just tell me what you'd like to see other than the exhaust. (I think it is an LS model)

A friend of mine has an 8.1 Silverado and it has a pretty healthy exhaust from the factory. I'm going to keep the catback stock on this one (it's nice to drive something that's quiet once in awhile ) but have a B&B TriFlo tailpipe and tip assembly that will give it a little more aggressive look. I'm trying to figure out if I'll be able to get the tip to fit the stock tailpipe or if it will be swallowed up. If it's not any inconvience I'd like to see what the tailpipe looks like and what size it is.

I'm going with Indigo blue again so it will probably have black flares. I don't know what they dropped the two tone option. It makes some trucks look so much better.

I'll get you some pics later this afternoon and get them posted this evening. My exhaust on my crewcab HD is 3 1/2" OD, with a slash cut pipe, We'll both find out what the "burb" has later today (assuming it is still on the lot).

Well Tom here's the "skinny"... The Suburban on the dealers lot was only a 6.0L (it's the red one). However they had a white Avalanche with the 8.1L sitting there too. The "Av" is built on the same chassis as the "burb", so it's safe to assume they would have the same exhaust. It looks to me like there isn't a bigger exhaust for the 8.1L Vs. the 6.0L. I didn't actually measure the pipe on the Suburban because it looked the same as the Avalanche, but the OD on the Avalanche is 3.0". I'm surprised that it isn't 3 1/2" like on my HD. It must be because of the suspension...

Thanks for taking the time to check this out. I really appreciate it! I noticed the picture of the front of your truck and was hoping that wasn't ice. It's to early in the year for that! That tailpipe came out real nice!
