Westers Tune

I put my Westers tune in this morning....and here are my findings so far.

Install is very easy - all you need is a 7mm socket an 1/4 rachet - it took all of 5 mins to remove and replace.

Ok now its time fire it up.....tune the key - starts then stalls - turn key again - starts for 1 sec stalls. - Ok try to 1/4 throttle it.....fire - stalls. Ok - now the wife comes out and say " I told you not to buy that stupid computer".

Great - as lady luck would have it - I have to get one of the Westers computers that has to relearn its codes. So I tell the wife its "normal" and I preceed to try to start then let the security light flash then the battery light flash back and forth for 10 mins. untill just the battery light stays on - then I turn the key off for 20 secs and do the procedure again - and again - on the forth cycle - she fires up !!

Allright - time for a ride.....head out for my first cruise...the first thing I notice is the speedo is off....quite a bit - but I ordered for 265x75x16 tires - I still have the 245 stockers on - so I expected it.

The truck seems to have smoother power......cant really tell if it has more...but deffinatly smoother. I proceed to cruise around for about 20 mins - some full throttle starts and the right rear tire lights up.. - Ok truck never did that before....so the TQ managment is deffinitley removed. So I head to the highway to do a couple 1/4 mile runs.

Holy Cow - does this truck pull now !!! :jester: - She shifts right at 5600 at full throttle and as it goes through the gears - Im going over 100mphs in no time. - way too fast for a full size HD. I did not hear or feel any pinging or detonation at all during the whole test. I currently have about 22 gals of 89 and put in 11 gals of 93 last night before the install so I have a dual blend right now.

So - so far so good - I will follow up with more info as I go through a tank or two.

One - question - I should know this - but - should my speedo read higher or lower then it should right now without the 265's ??

Your speedo should read higher than true, since with the larger tires, 1 revolution equals more distance than you are actually travelling with the smaller tires.

Yup, it'll read higher till you get the 265's on it Darrell.

It will perk up even more when you get all 93 in it and will keep getting stronger and stronger for the first 100 miles or so too!

Wait till you see how nice it is to tow with now too!

They are the best tires i ever had for the rain. They will NOT hydroplane even at 85+. I'm not sure of their snow tracktion. My truck sucks in the snow but i dont think the tires are to blame. ( long wheelbase, offset front vs rear axel, no weight in bed, wider tires) THe tires have a nice stiff sidewall and do not roll under taking turns at high speeds. I would recomend them, but if i were to do it again I might go back to the 245 to try to get better snow traction.

i will give you my 2 cents on tires i had the wrangler rt/s on

my 97 k1500ext cab they had no traction in rain/snow anything.

i put a set of gooyear wranglet at/s on it never had any tire noise

traction was great in any condition snow/rain ect never had a problem

.just before i sold it i had 70000 miles on tires and still had 7/32nds of

tread left. in my opinion i wouldnt buy a differant tire always done what

i wanted now that i have a 04 cc d/a 4x4 im goin to try them on it as

a 265-75r16 also got to get rid eof those small mini spare tires on it now

just my 2 cents good luck :jester:

Thanks for the tire input - the wife has the Wrangler AT/S on her Z71 Tahoe - I like them so far. Really good in the rain - looks like they will work good in the snow also. But I think Im really leaning towards the REVO"s - right now - I have a few weeks to research - Will be buying the tires middle of Sept.

Thats awesome man i can't wait to get my westers tune. So it really made that much of a difference huh?

Yeah - so far so good - wont be driving the truck again untill Thursday - that will put another 70 miles on it - so she should dialed in. Everybody says - the more you drive it - the better it gets.

Ok - so I towed the Mustang to the dyno last night - about 100 miles round trip....all I can say is Kudos to Westers and his Tuning ability .... truck now has more low end and midrange for the hills. Pulls great !!!

I did seem to have a little 'dead' spot around 2000 to 2200 rpms...but lets see what happends when I have the new tires and run the proper speeds before hills.

One of the main things that you will notice with the westers tune is that the Torque managment is gone. This alone increases the seat of the pants feel and off the start towing power.

More miles and results to come.

I've got the Revo's on my wife's 4Runner, I will never buy any other AT tire. The traction in snow is amazing, rain is nothing with these tires. We've got about 35K miles on them, still look new, rotate them every 5K miles. We got the 265/70's (stock for 4Runners), my mom just bought these for her TrailBlazer. Chris

When I saw this pic of the tire on TireRack.com I knew I wanted it! (Sounds goofy :banghead: , but they are nice http://www.tirerack.com/tires/BigPic.jsp?t...romCompare1=yes
