crue98 Posted August 18, 2004 Posted August 18, 2004 I am thinking of putting a 40 or 50 series flowmaster on my truck. I was wondering if there was much of a difference between a single out or a dual out. Is there much difference in sound or performance? Also is it bad to take off the catalytic, heard there could be a loss of power b/c of back pressure?
NOS#9BIGMAC Posted August 18, 2004 Posted August 18, 2004 I would absolutely recommend a dual system . the sound and performence will make all the difference. And is money well spent . I've already got plans to run headers, crossover pipes, and flowmasters before I bolt on a 100hp shot of NOS. good luck
crue98 Posted August 18, 2004 Author Posted August 18, 2004 Hey Thanks, I though duals would probably sound and look better. Just trying to figure out what I want to do after the my wedding....that's where all money is.
crue98 Posted August 18, 2004 Author Posted August 18, 2004 What series of flowmasters would you guys go with. I like the deep sound.
kadillac_kid Posted August 21, 2004 Posted August 21, 2004 If your engine is pre-Vortec, then back pressure shouldn't be as big of a deal if you wanna run duals, flowmasters, no cats, or whatever your fuel-injected heart desires. Don't know what DOT inspection policies are where you live, but I know most places in Texas, you usually have to "know" somebody in order to pass inspection when you completely cut your cats off. You might consider hollowing out the inside and re-installing them. Had plenty of friends that've done that with single and dual Flowmasters, glass packs, etc. and they've all sounded loud and proud. Just depends on your personal taste I guess.
crue98 Posted August 23, 2004 Author Posted August 23, 2004 Here in Iowa it not really a big thing for emissions. I talked to a guy at a local muffler shop and I think we are going to do true dual w/o cats and put on two mufflers that is has on his pickup...can't remember what they are but they sound good. Thanks for the input it makes me decision that much easier.
DernMooseAk Posted October 20, 2004 Posted October 20, 2004 Go Hawks! Be real careful with the no cat thing. Federal law to have them. They have a reward system for turning people in who are not running cats!
