My new jeep is finally here and I am going to pick it up tomorrow. The big surprise is it has come in with the new premium package. The upside is that the wheel flares are painted. The thing I am not sure about is the crome front. What are your thoughts?

I'd say it's more like 14mpg, what with all of that weight on the vehicle.

No 34 MPG. I am still on the fence about the front grill. I can take it off if I desire. Driving the thing is like driving a go cart, but it does tow the jet ski ( 1100lbs with trailer and gas) like it is nothing, not sure if I should be towing with 110 miles on it. I am very happy with it so far, it seems to dao all that I want it to.

I'm courious, why this model particularly?

I mean, you coulda got a nice used Silverado again for the same price.....if you want gas, coulda gotten a 4.3 with 3.43's......

so why a jeep?

We bought one last year, but in our case, needed a roustabout rig that not only had quality 4X4 abilities and strength, but had a small body for fence line maintenance in which the access is through a lot of ravines and limited width trails. Currently use a 4-wheeler for a lot of that, but needed something more substantial.

My Silverado is just too big in our case. The jeep is perfect for that.

I have always liked Jeeps but could never live with the room of the standard Wrangler. The Unlimited provides that needed room.

Why not another Silverado? I really have no need for a truck but an SUV type was required. What really sells on the Jeep is 8 bolts, 2 clamps and the top is off. A very nice feature for the VA beach summers.

I like the looks of it John! :lurk:

All of this talk of mileage? I don't get it. You could tow the Jeep and the Jetski on a 3000lb trailer with your PSD Superduty and get better mileage doing it than the Jeep or many 4x4 V8 Silverados do unloaded! :jester:

Why not just drive the diesel if mileage is a concern. What are you getting unloaded with the Superduty, John? I'll bet at least 17 to 19 mpg.

My V10 Superduty gets a little over 12 average and 14 to 15 highway and it was starting to hurt so we just bought a little base model Pontiac Vibe as an errand runner/work car...my last fillup was 33.7mpg! :flag:

Good luck with the Jeep! Looks like a fun vehicle!

Hill,

Milage is not really an issue with me. The Jeep and Superduty average out about the same. The real issue boils down to a couple factors: 1 I am buying a house after the first of the year. Owning the Jeep opposed to the truck frees up a bunch of money each month. Jeep and ski together cost me less a month then the truck. 2 is security, I have 3 more years left on sea duty. I wanted something that would fit in a garage while I was gone.

I see. I thought you you were keeping the truck and buying the Jeep as a second vehicle. Bummer the truck has to go but Jeeps are great too! :fume:

Be safe while you're at sea and thanks for helping to protect the country! :D

Nice Unlimited, I am looking into those but think I will hold out for the 05. They will be available with the 6 spd manual and the Rubicon package.
