Anmyone put a Westers or Hypertec in their 8.1 / Allison? I have a 2004 2500HD CC and 285's. Need to recalibrate for the larger tires and wondering if Westers or Hypertec will give me better MPG?

Thanks, D.

I have a Westers in mine and it really helped alot. I have a 2003 2500HD 8.1/Ally. I just got the 265 BFG's and got Lyndon to recalibrate for them. I would definately go with Westers over a handheld unit.

I had a superchips, then switched to westers. It really woke the truck up, and it shifts real nice now. IMO I don't think handheld tunes can compare to a custom tune, once you get it right. Spend the extra money and go with a custom tune.

I told him to take some TM out, but to keep it somewhat safe. I can still feel it somewhat but not to much....as far as MPG, I got the 93 tune so I lost some...probably somewhere between 1.5-2 mpg. But then again, sometimes it makes me stomp it a little at stoplights......I enjoy driving my truck...that's all that matters

I have a 3/4 ton full size extended cab with a 496c.i. BigBlock, 5 speed Ally and 4:10 gears . . . . . .MPG was not even a consideration when i purchased it.... I also opted for the 93 "hot tune" from westers, so i probably lost a MPG or two with my tune. He does have dual tunes and tunes just for recouping some MPGs if you are really concerned with it, but we are dealing with big trucks with big power.

Also, i told Lyndon to remove as much T/M as he felt comfortable doing and that would be fine with me. I may call him back to remove more because of how nice it feels just from whats gone already. I think removing to much T/M with the ALLY transmision can cause erratic shifting patterns.

IF those are the only choices get the westers. If you have a laptop and like to play around with the tuning yourself look into hp tuners. You can do anything westers does. Make some changes, test run, make more changes, etc. It cost about what a westers costs (500).

I'm getting 9-9.5 around town, but that's averaging 22-25 mph for a tank of gas. Highway I'm getting 11-11.5. I know my trip computer / odometer are off because I have 285's and haven't re-programmed. I did a highway trip and used GPS to get miles traveled. Got 13.5 highway traveling 80 MPH. Pretty d**n good for a Big Block.

I don't mind the torque management. I did like the way my 1500's shifted when in tow-haul mode.

I'll probably go with Westers. Nice thing about Hypertec for the 2004's is one works for all models (1500-2500-2500HD-3500). So if I ever got sick of it I could sell on e-bay. I still go back and forth.

But the even nicer thing with Wester's tune is the 100% credit of what you paid toward the tune for your NEXT truck. Hypertech only works on one year, Wester's works on every year!!!

if your next truck is an lly duramax you will have to wait to apply that 100% credit. i have been waiting since may for lyndon to work up a tune for the new duramax but he is busy with another project. hope he finds time soon. the credit is like money in the bank that you can't touch.

sorry have to disagree. tts has a program for the lly, its been out well over a month. i think lyndon is busy with some other project. i sent westers garage an e-mail and the response was they could get me an edge at lyndons cost. huh? not what i was hoping to hear. this is not a bash but patience is not one of my strong points. i want to feel the power of the tune again. ray

Yes, that is a tough one. No one has broken the code for the LLY's yet! I bet Lyndon will be first though!

Yep, several tuners have a mod / tune for the LLY. Edge, Bullydog, and Quadzilla all have them.
