A/C blows hot air

Now that the weather's changing, I have to run the defroster in the morning.

I typically leave the A/C button on, flip over to defrost, and turn up both the fan and the heat (I have the standard controls, not climate control).

Anyhow, once things have warmed up, and I flip back to the standard vents and set the temp down, the air flow changes, but the heat doesn't - its still very hot.

If I shut down the truck and restart it, the air blows cold again.

If I just start it without turning the heat up, air blows cold and I can adjust it at will.

I couldn't find anything in the archives. My guess is that the controller for the heater/A/C door is acting up.

Anyone experienced this or have any ideas how I might troubleshoot it?

I know what you mean...mine just started doing it as well. When I turn the a/c on it blows hot and I either have to turn it off and back on or cycle to defrost to get cold air going. Not sure what it is but I do remember reading something on this topic a while back. Someone will know what is causing it.

My service advisor said they couldn't find anything wrong, and that the "pc reboot" method of pulling to the side of the road, turning off the truck and then restarting it is the best way to solve the problem!!!

Great!! Now Bill Gates must own a huge chunk of GM shares!! :D

My truck did it once a couple of months ago. I just kept driving the truck. About 30 minutes later it started putting out cold air. I tried resarting my truck, but it dind't work.

I had this problem about a year ago and it WAS the actuator causing the problem. The dealer charged $175 to replace it and no problems since.
