Rancho Adjustable Shocks

I am looking at purchasing 4 Rancho 9000x shocks. They have a rebate on till the end of the month to get a free in cab adjuster. The shocks have 9 settings.

Does anyone have these, or a similar type?

Do you change the settings often and can you notice a difference after you make the adjustment?

Are these a gimmick that you set them once and never change the setting?

How do they compare to factory shocks?

I have a 2002 1500HD with 80,000 miles.

I have them on my 1995 Yukon. On the #1 setting, the truck sways and feels loose. On #4 or #5, it feels about right, but sometimes a little jarring in the back. On a bumpy road, I set them to #1 and the ride is pretty good. For day to day, I have them set around #4. I can't imagine the #9 setting (which was #5 on the R9000). The R9000X only adds half settings (#2 on the R9000 is #4 on the R9000X, #2.5 on R9000 would be #5 on the R9000X, etc.), but the softest is #1 on R9000 and R9000x, while #9 is the firmest on R9000X and #5 is firmest on R9000. The #5 R9000 equals #9 R9000X

A good example is when I drove to Prudoe Bay. 400 miles of washboard dirt road. I had them set on #4 and couldn't go too fast, since it shook too much. I set them to #1 and they did very well, and I could go around 50 MPH. When I got back on pavement, I forgot to set them firmer, and it felt very loose. Then I remembered to stiffen them up and all was good. Also, in the winter, when the roads are snow packed and lots of ruts, the softer works better.

Once you find a setting you like, you may not ever change them unless the conditions change a lot. The key is that you have the choice without trying different shocks. On a lifted truck, you may set them firmer, since the height puts some more leverage on the truck, and it will sway if too soft.

The adjustment is for preload only. Compression and rebound stay the same.

I have the 9000x on my 97 Yukon 4wd -4dr. I love em , I keep em set at 7 in the front and 6 in the rear on my lowered suspension rolling on 305/45 20's

I wouldnt change them for anything

I've got the 9000s on my 2500HD. I agree with the other poster, the number 1 setting is way to "loose" for my taste. Having said that I don't like them to be set any less than 5. There is a BIG difference in the way my truck handles depending on the setting I'm using,so I do know they work as advertised.

My truck is a big HD type truck and it will never ride like a 1500. Knowing that, I have them set at 9 right now. I like the way my truck handles with them maxed out. I'd rather adjust the air pressure in the tires to get a softer ride than sacrifice the much improved handling with the setting on 9.

that is so true, I can always tell if someone has played with the settings( for some reason everytime someone sees a truck with adjustable shocks up on a lift they twistem around).

The adjustments definitely work.

I never installed that remote controller after reading that they might loose presssure overnight???!?!?!?!?!

I like to set em and periodically adjust
