Where to connect for power for siren

Recommended Posts

I have a new 04 2500 HD 6.0 4x4, and being a volunteer firefighter, I need to install a siren, I got a new siren with the remote control panel. I plan to put the actual siren box under the driver's seat (the siren, not the speaker- that will go behind the grill). Question is... where is the best place to connect the power to? There are wires under the seat for the power seat adjustments... can I tap into this hot wire for power? I just don't want to hook up someplace where it'll screw something else up.

Thanks!

You're going to have to run wires to the outside of the cab to the front of your truck for the siren so why not run a wire from the battery junction box under the hood back inside to your siren panel under the seat? Make sure you fuse it if you do. That way, you will have plenty of power with the correct size wire right from the battery. I would be curious to know how you will be getting wiring out of your cab in a watertight fashion because I have to do the same thing myself pretty soon. I just joined my local volunteer fire department.

Sorry for sounding ignorant... but where is the battery junction box?

I wasn't able to find any place in the firewall to squeeze the wires through and really don't want want to drill. There is an opening high on the driver's side above the door hinge that gives you access to the engine compartment - I was thinking about going that route, but that may be exposed to rain runoff - I'll have to look again. The wires would be visible for about 3-4 inches when you open the door. I like your idea about the junction box (when I find it...), but that means another wire to the engine compartment, so I may have to look for a better route to get the wires through so it doesn't look so crappy with 3 wires visible when I open the door.

Does anyone know if there is an opening in the firewall I can use for this?
