Hi all, recently my message center displyed " Service 4x4" it showed for a couple mins and I have'nt seen it since (about 2 days).

Does this indicate that their is something wrong with my 4x4 or does this just come up at a certian milage (just over 83,000 miles) to remind the owner to service?

this most likely means that your dash switch has stoped working. see if you can put it into 4 wheel drive. if it wont engage or disengage then its probably your switch... by the way i have one if you want to buy it. :nono: i got it for my silverado but didnt need it. new there $60 but i'll sell it for $20.

Ok guys i checked the 4x4 and it shifts perfectly into and out of 4WD (hi and low).

Is there any possibilty that the transfer case is due for a servicing at 83,000 miles?

Mine, too, would shift fine but that "Service 4x4" would be on multiple times a day. I replaced the switch and it hasn't been back on in 3 weeks.

Yep,as said before I would try the dash switch first. 99% of the time thats the problem :nono:

No, this indicator shows a problem with the circuits in the 4x4 system, not routine servicing. Mine did the same thing, except it would sometimes not switch through the modes and the switch would sometimes blank out. Had good luck with these guys:

Mine gave me problems for over a year... I just bought the switch and kept it in my center console... when it quit working and I needed it, I just swapped them out.

You switch will go eventually... probably when you need it most. Replace it now, or keep an extra in the truck, just in case :nono:.
