"05 Tahoe cd player

I just picked up my first chevy truck after 2 ford explorers and a Olds Bravada. What a difference, what a great truck this is bigger and more powerful. The only draw back is I got the navigation system in it and when you are using the nav. you cannot use the cd player. While I was at the dealership I noticed that in an Escalade it has an additional 6 cd changer built in. The nav system looks the same except for the extra cd player. I was wondering if I can add the cd changer and tie into my audio/nav system. The Tahoe has a spot in the dash that looks like it will fit the changer I was wondering how hard it would be to wire in I know these new audio systems have some kind of security system in them.

I also wanted thank the members on this board for all the good info I got before I bought the truck

Thanks Again

The Denali's and Escalades have Class II entertainment systems (Y91 Luxury). I hadn't even tried the changer in a non classII system, however the device communicates in the same manner as the XM tuner and Rear Seat Entertainment systems do. It "should" function for you.

I belive that may be the Denali version only.

However, if Yukon and XL (not Denali) do have it, then the retrofit would most certainly work.

The "Y91/Class II amp" is a more pricey item that GM only offers in their Luxury models. (But they apparently dropped it from the H2's in the later 04's on...)

Class II in itself, has been around for some time now for module communications and OBD. GM-Lan is a latecomer that is supposedly in the cars now. But the prints appear the same...

The Y91 Luxury amp is controlled more via class II data from the radio.

The "Premium" system does audio processing in the radio and sends variable "processed" levels to a fixed-level input amp.

The "Luxury" Y91 amp gets a fixed-level from the radio and processes the levels, eq, etc internally.

The Y91 amp's internals set via class II data, sent from the radio head unit.

Those differences are the two standards (D100 & D175) and don't mix too well, but they were "supposed to"! Hmmmm.

In the case of aux items, however (XM, RSE and the changer) are controlled by the head unit via class II data in the same manner among them, regardless of amplifier communication type. They all tap onto the same single audio input pair to the HU, and are powered on-off/controlled/selected one at a time. This is prior to amp controls.

However, don't feel too much remorse about your audio system the way it is now. The price of retrofitting a Y91 nav system is about the same as the option price. If you have the TNR with the premium system now, it should be easily sold to those not wanting to bother with the amp retrofit. Hopefully at not too much loss..

You may want to wait a bit for some resolve. We're trying to see if the TNR is an environment programming issue (to configure to either system) or in fact different (since we have two part numbers so far).

Wonder if it's worth it? Just listen to the Denali's or an Escalade's system.

Note that Jason at JP Customs has a Tahoe that his wife wanted him to put the Y91 amp back in after he has "restored" it to the stock one from an earlier retrofit.

He had to reinstall it, of course!

The Y91 in my Avalanche sounds soooo much better than the "crap amp" (as we call it now). I didn't continue with aftermarket amp changeout plans from that point.

Well, there's time, and at least you have a nice nav and truck!

Thanks for the info. It is a great truck and I can use the rear seat entertainment system to listen to a cd if I want to use both nav and cd. I just thought it might be a great add on to the truck.

Thanks Again

I just added the NAV system to my 2004 Suburban and added a 6 disc changer. Bought it a JP Customs, he could probably tell you.

It is either a solder or quick connect operation, and I had to take my entire dash out to do it, but it works great and works with the reaer seat entertainment system.
