Gone to the Dealership

Well, today I got tired of dealing with the Passlock problem and took the truck to the dealership. The service manager has been talking me through this for a while now and assured me that he would do me right. We will see. When I dropped the truck off the service writer started to give me the normal spiel, you know the one, "well we have to do this and then this, and then this". He did not seem real happy when I told him that I had the TSB at home and know that the computer would tell him exactly which wire needed the attention. He looked at me and said "well, we will see". Good thing I have been working with the service manager on this. He gaurenteed me that he would call me by noon with the prognosis. I will keep you updated on the progress. I am hoping to have my truck back by tomorrow afternoon.

I don't like not having my baby here. :banghead:

Well, here is the latest news. I called and the tech pulled the history code. He insists that the problem is derived from the instlation and removal of the remote starter. They are going to fix the wires and hope that it will fix the passlock problems. Good thing though, the Service Manager is taking care of me on this.

Service writers have to put up with so much crap from people that don't know jack about their own vehicles. When somebody like you comes along, they automatically stereotype you with all the others. Without defending them too much I have to say they have a pretty hard job. :banghead:

While hell if they can put up with crap from people who dont know jack about there trucks and still keep the customer happy then they must be making the bucks (Money) to be able to deal with harsh customer.

I picked up my truck today. We think we fixed the Passlock system, which I am happy about. They did the alingment (I replaced the Pitman and Idler arms) and the steering wheel is still cocked. That drives me nuts, I will have to take it back to have that straightened out. It does track straight though, and that is good. Overall, I am happy with the work they did and they took care of me on the charges. They have redeemed themselves from past problems in my eyes.

Well the truck is going back again. The other morning, I was on my way to a friends house and the security light came on. Tonight, went I got back to my friends house it would not start, it threw the security light on. Hopefully I will not have any problems until they can take it on Monday morning. I will keep everyone updated to the progress. At this point, I am waiting to see how they will handle the charges, since I was pretty much gaurenteed the repair of the wires that were damaged by the remote starter would repair the problem. The good thing here, the service manager has been very nice and called me as soon as he got the message about my continuing problem. He really seems to care about what is happening with my truck and wants to see it fixed right.

So here is the latest installment. I dropped the truck off on Sunday night so that they could work on it Monday. I got a call and although my security light had come on and I had the starting problem again, there were no codes in the computer. They redid the alingment and at my request, drove the truck around for a while. Before they took the truck out, they hooked up a mobile diagnostics unit and monitored the entire computer system while they were driving (checking that the alingment was right and the wheel straight). Oh, yeah, I forgot, they went through the entire Passlock system, checked all wires (for resistance), all connections, cleaned all connections, and put it all back together. While they were driving, the mobile unit recorded that all resistance was well within specs and no problems were found. The Manager called me up and explained what was done. The tech used a quarter tank of gas, but I did not mind. The manager told me that there would be no charge and to call him if there were any more problems. I have to say, my dealer has really stepped up to the plate and did the right thing for me.

That's cool that they stand behind their work and didn't try to give you some story as to why they had to charge you again. I just hope that you don't continue to have problems with that Passlock system. Intermittent problems suck big time!

They promised to stand by the repairs as long as possible. If I have another problem, I was told to bring it in without turning the ignition off. The best thing is that they treated me wrong a couple of times and I was upset about that. They redeemed themselves.
