stock fog lights

I get alot of oncoming drivers flashing their brights when I have my fog lights on with the low beams. Is there anyway to adjust the fog lights? Its a 2003 Z71, stock fog lamps.

This will not help you with your question - but I will say that I have noticed several times on the new body style silverados that the fog lights can be very bright...

Tehir intensity cannot be varied but the adjustment is very easy. Just a hand screw on the bracket of the foglight will adjust up/down.

Hope this helps.

For a long time it seemed that the factory fog lights were merely decoration, generating little useful light. Hmm, maybe things are getting brighter?

Not bashing on anyone but, why the hell do people have their fog lights on when there is no fog, snow or rain? A lot of cars it blinds other oncoming cars. The fog lights do not have a large reflective range so all you are doing is making the area near your car brighter, it does not help you see things further off like hi beams do. The fog lights are designed to reveal the lines on the road when there are adverse conditions, nothing else. Sorry the people that drive with their fog lights on all the time are one of my pet peeves.

i like my fogs because they light up more of the side of the road.....i like them better than using my brights, however i get flashed alot

Ya the Hi Beams suck on these trucks, they don't show the side of the road well. This really sucks if you live in the county and have to watch for deer. I put a painless wiring kit on my truck that keeps the low beams on too when you kick on the hi beams. It is so nice, was like $15 and took me only about 15-20 minutes to install and I am not a do it yourself car type. I get flashed with jusat my lows on every now and then, and trust me trhey regret it when I flash back now.

Lets clairfy a few things. The lights that are yellow are fog lights. The lights that are clear are driving lights. Fog lights are made for fog. Driving lights are made for driving. There are people that flash me now, and I do not have either fog or driving lights on my truck, only the old dull yellow stockers. If people are that sensative about light coming from oncoming vehicles, they need to just park their cars in the driveway when it gets dark. New cars are coming out with brighter headlights than ever. I have gotten to the point that when someone flashes me my lights being to bright, I flash them back, or just wave at them and say hi! That pisses them off.

There are alot of deer and moose vs vehicle accidents where I live. I agree with snarkee that my driving lights illuminate the side of the road into the woods line much better than the high beams. :D

I get more flashes with the fog/driving lights off than I do with them on. I think it may have more to do with how high our lights are. When I pull up behind someone they are usually shining right in their back window. Also the 03 & up Silverado’s have clear headlights and 40 watt fog/driving lights.

I work nights and half of my drive is through the country, I see deer every night. Alot of times I run with my low beams and fog lights because it lights up better than the high beams do.

Ditto...I see multiple deer almost every night, the driving lights help me see the sides of the road and the deer coming out of the woods. Deer season starts tomorrow and let me tell you I will be dodging deer for weeks to come. I go to work in the dark and come home in the dark on all back roads so let me apologize for the driving lights ahead of time if I pass you some night. :D

Yellow/Orange Lights = Parking Lights

White Lights in the Air Dam = Fog Lights

Read the sticker of accessories in thewindows of the trucks on lots, they are called "fog lights." People are flashing you mcrey because it is illegal to drive with just the yellows on. Watch cops, if they are parked on the side of the road watching for speeders, they just have the yellows on because it is the law. If you are sitting in a parked car you have to have the parking/yellow lights on so people are sure to see you and not worry that you are a moving vehicle that will pull out infront of them.

There are driving lights you can replace the fog lights with, but they have a more focused beam, and high reflective ranges. If the things in the air dam were driving lights they wouldn't be design to act like flood lights.

The painless with high/low combo are a lot better for seeing deer than fog lights. Lights are rated with reflective ranges and the fog lights are crap for that because they are basically flood lights. For on coming cars having the fog lights on it is hard to tell there is more than just the regular lights on, they blur together and look like hi beams. The only deer you will see due to the fog lights are close up ones where it be too late if they jumped out anyways.

To me it is just common curtosy to turn off the fog lights for oncoming people. With hi beams you see better than without, but when an oncoming car is approaching you turn them off even if you cannot see as well. I think the same should apply here, it isn't hard to press a button.

I don't get high beamed. I ve got mine adjusted so the beam is fairly flat.

the center of the bulb measures 20" from the ground.

At 25 ' the top of my beam is 20" from the ground.

As noted these lights are not designed for long distance illumination.

Therfore I believe the should be adjusted on the low side.

I agree with the guys regarding better road shoulder coverage.

In total dark I've got Hi-lo-fog all on.

With the 100watt Hi beams the world is bright.

It's not the dear I worring about, it's the 1000# elk I'm trying to miss..

I don't seem to get high beamed either, and I usually have my fogs on. Seems to light up the road better without having to use the highs, and my night vision isn't the best. 20/20 during the day, but my eyes don't adjust quickly enough and are very sensitive to glare. Every little bit helps.
