shift light

i noticed on my 2000 chevy obs 2500 it has a shift light and yes mines a standard, but it never come on? i know the bulb is not burnt out because when the scanned my truck for codes the checked it and it came on. any info on this

There's no option to turn it off. Many people wish! Maybe it's your driving style? Try driving it like a little old lady and drag out the time between shifts and see if it comes on.

 

It's regulated by engine speed/load, throttle position, etc., and is commanded on by the PCM. If your friend was able to turn it on with a scanner, then the IPC is functioning and able to receive the class 2 message from the PCM to turn it on. All that remains is either the PCM (failure or thinks it's an automatic?) or your driving habits.

even driving like an old lady didnt work do u think that my hypertech progamer might have taken it off, what is a pcm, if it is that should i have it checked out

PCM=Powertrain Control Module. That's the vehicle's engine computer. Did you notice if the light stopped working after you installed the Hypertech tuning? It makes sense that the Hypertech might cause the shift light not to work. If the truck runs well with the Hypertech and you don't really use the shift light, I'd just leave it alone. Personally I'd ditch the Hypertech and give Bryan Herter from PCMforLess a call. There's a link to the left.
