Hey all you chevy lovers, I was wondering if any of you could help me on a question. I am wondering what size tire i can put safely on my 02 Ext. Cab Z71 Silverado. I have the 265 16's firestones that they put on from the factory and i have had one side wall go on one of my tires, and I have one with a slow leak, so I decided that it is time to get some real tires. I am looking at BFG A/T KO 285's. COuld i maybe go any bigger withouth making any adjustments to the truck?

I look forward to you opinions..

Hey there Mike! Welcome to the site! I have BFG All Terrains, 285 75R 16 on the factory rim, factory ride height. No problems what so ever. No rubbing, and I didn't notice any problems with the speedometer either...it actually seems to be more accurate after the swap! You can see what they look like if you click on the link under the picture in my sig.

Thanks man, so no rubbing uh? Yeah i was checking out your truck already, and it looks great, I love black trucks. Well let me ask you this, what do you think about going a few sizes bigger, maybe even to 305's I had a 98 Chevy P/U and put 305's with just a little rubbing when i cranked the tires has hard as i could, but that was it. Those tires were so good in the winter. Well I am going to get at least 285's BFG's but i would like to go bigger if possible. Well let me know your opinon.

A budd of mine told me that the llargest you can go on a 16" rim is 285, 295 on a 15. He works for a tire store so I trust his opnions.

A 285 75 16 measures out to be 33" x 11.2" on a factory 7" rim.. Any larger and you may encounter some rubbing on the inner frame/suspension.. Although this may be only mild contact ANY contact with the frame, body, or suspension is deemed unsafe by the state of Pennsylvania and will fail a safety inspection.. Your local laws may be diffrent but I tend to agree with the PA book because even though it may only be a little bit the sidewall isn't made to be a wear surface and its strength may be comprimised over time..
