Any hints for cleaning chrome plated rims?

I left my truck parked close to the beach for half a year. Some light rust accumulated on the bumpers and rims. I already took care of the bumpers   and will tackle the rims this weekend. Does anyone out there have suggestions on how to get the chrome plated rims clean. I'm just asking cause the cars manual has like a gazillion pages on what not to do with these rims but does not mention what kind of cleaners are safe for the job.

Any good chrome cleaner / polish should be able to take care of the rust. A little elbow grease and you should be all set. For the harder spots use a real fine piece of steel wool.

If the chrome cleaner doesn't work, then I'd use NeverDull wadding by Eagle One.  It works great on chrome, and is "quick"!!!

Thanx for your help guys. I did try the chrome polish but it did not take care of all the rust. After Christmas I'll try to find some NeverDull. The problem is that I live in the Caribbean and some products are really hard to find (Gotta give up something for the nice wheather) Merry Christmas to y'all!

If you can get ahold of a BRASS bristled brush (battery cleaning) you can scrub the rust out with it (won't scratch like a steel one) and the wheel cleaner. Wash and dry it all off and see if anything is left. Take some aluminum foil and water and rub the wheel where needed. This actually works on bumpers too. You do need to wax them when you are finished.

Thanks for all the help. Been out partying too much these days so I didn't have the time to try out everything yet. I will get to it one of these days. Shaners, I didn't find NeverDull yet. The boss is calling me.... guess I'm going back to work....

I don't know if you have any Walmart-type stores around.  Maybe even an Atuo part store.  Since it is made by Eagle One I would think it would be available.

I had those chrome rims on my '97 F250 and I was amazed at how quickly it cleaned them up...

No Wallmart, K-mart, Autozone or non of that around here. The only thing we got here that's a known franchise in America is a Napa store. They carry Eagle 1 products, but of course not what I'm looking for! I'll check some other automotive stores tomorrow. Between the year end parties and work it is hard to find time to finally get this done
