Saturday Trip

today went down to southern indiana to do some hiking and sight seeing basically. Well we were leaving and the weather was getting real bad. I kept getting these warnings over the radio (not fron the radio station or weather broadcast)

Basically warned or tornados, hail, wind, rain etc

Visibility at times was near 0. Pretty much sucked. Glad i had autotrac. Worked awesome.

I know the impala's have a thing where if bad weather or traffic warnings come about they will break into your radio transmission and tell you. Is this the same for the silverados? Never had this happen before it was kinda wierd.

Also when we left we put our shoes in the bed. Drove about 50 miles in terential downpour. Got to a gas station stopped for drinks and the bed of my truck didnt have a drop of rain in it. Guess i was going to fast and the water was going right over the bed

I went over 19K miles on the odometer now

got my best tank of gas ever 17.8 mpg

Never heard of that, are you sure it wasnt the Emergency Broadcast System from the National Weather people?  They break into everything and broadcast when necessary..

My wifes Olds minivan has the RDS radio in it.  It does exactly what you are saying.  Also if the station broadcasts in RDS the name of the station will appear on the face of the radio.  I was in Erie yesterday and hit the seek button and when it stopped the radio said "STAR 104" on it.  Also there are buttons for "info" and traffic and weather on it oo.  It's a pretty cool deal and messages/promos from stations will scroll across the face of the radio.  Any emergency broadcast will automatically overide the current setting.

The radio in the Silverado does not say RDS on it and I don't think it will automatically switch.  I'm guessing you heard the emergency broadcast system like Newbie said...

I don't know why the RDS radio isn't in our trucks.  I'd have to dbl check, but I believe it is the same DINN size.

no it wasnt the national weather service.

I know how that goes.  This just turned the station off and a robot voice guy came over the speakers.  I switched stations and he was on all of em.

I just thank god i didnt hit any hail

Oh the funniest thing the guy said was to put your car in the garage and head for the lowest part of your house

What if your 200 miles from home and your truck wont fit in a darn garage?

This was the worst storm i have ever been through )passenger or driver)
