Pocono qualifying now on Saturdays

December 17, 2004

LONG POND, Pa. (AP) -- Qualifying for the two NASCAR races at Pocono Raceway will now take place on Saturday, the track said Friday.

Qualifying for the Pocono 500 in June and the Pennsylvania 500 in July had previously been held on Fridays.

Immediately following Saturday qualifying, NASCAR will impound the race cars. Teams will not be permitted to work on the cars except in cases approved by NASCAR.

The Pocono 500 weekend is set for June 10-12, 2005 and the Pennsylvania 500 weekend is set for July 22-24, 2005.

I liked alot when they did this with the Busch cars last year. I think it would cool to just do it at every track for both series.

I like the new rule of them having to start the race in their qualifying setups. Speeds will drop some(in qualifying) but should be better racing. Time will be spent seting up for the race and not on a 2 lap run.
