Extending Warranty on wife's Burban

Wife's Z-71 Burban is two years old and has 32,000 miles on it. Been thinking about getting the extended warranty. Spoke with my dealer. Here is the deal:

  • Extend warranty four more years
  • Takes me up to 100,000 miles
  • $0.00 deductible
  • Warranty is transferable

All this for $1875 (note, $250 deductible is only $1725)

Got 0% financing. Planning to keep for a while. No major problems to this point.

Sounds like a pretty good deal to me. What do you all think?

What does the warranty cover? The only extended warranty I would even consider would be either GMs Value Guard or Major Guard, and I would recommend the Major Guard. Dont go with anything but a GM protection plan. Do a search in google for GM protection plan and you should find the site. The non GM endorsed warranties are way too risky. I think the Major Guard will even provide you with a rental car if need be.

I agree with hihosilverado, I'd make sure you were looking at the GM warranty. The only other alternative I considered was from AAA. Wasn't enough price difference to go with AAA. Too many storys out there about 3rd party warranty companies going belly up, or not wanting to pay, or dealers not wanting to work with, etc. Many on this site have had good luck with a GM dealer in Pennsylvainia. You can get a quote by email, and there's no pressure to buy. Also, if you don't live in PA, you pay no sales tax. Even if you are able to save a couple of bucks with a third company, just remember your warranty is only as good as the company standing behind it. GM is not going anywhere. Good luck with your decision.

Because he is beyond the FIRST 12 months / 12,000 miles, The cost for the GM major guard is going to be around 2X's the cost he is quoted for the OTHER service contract.

Please double check me on this, But what I found out on the GM MAjor Guard is "IF YOU SNOOZE YOU LOOSE"

I agree the GM MAJOR GUARD is the best way to go, But...... If you have to pay over $ 3,000 dollars there are other alternatives.

iF you are a AAA member look into their Service contract, The service provider varies from state to state but they are backed by a large underwriter in case it goes belly up.

Remember that a EXTENDED WARRENTY is in truth a "SERVICE CONTRACT"

There are a few very good ones and there are a lot of bad ones.

Do a GOOGLE search and see whats out there and what others have to say about them.

Does GEICO still offer one ? I had one on a '90 Nissian Maxima & '93 Jeep Cherokee cost me around 400 / $ 450 and they payed for themselves MANY times over.

The best part about a Service Contract is EASE of MIND when you have a problem, You know that you have already payed for the repair and that you basically know you will be taken care of. Kind of like having final funeral arrangements made in advance.

Read between the line on any service contract.

you are wrong on this. i bought my gmpp with 35k and it was within $200 of any other price I could find.

i was just looking into the gmpp again for my gf's envoy and found this place - if you check out gmoutlet you can find the following for a suburban:

bought within 12k/ 12 months of new with a 0 ded, 6/100k coverage = $2270

bought now (at 32k), $0 ded with an additonal 4 yrs/72k (giving him coverage till 104k) = $1990.

All this for $1875 (note, $250 deductible is only $1725)

i wonder why they even offer the $250 deductible option. you would only get the warrany if you think you would use it, but if you use it once your total cost is up to $1975? whats the point?
