Painting Fender Flares

Recommended Posts

I was thinking about giving my truck more of a clean look on the exterior.

Sideshot of My truck

For Starters I removed the Rocker Panels.  Next I was thinking about taking off the fender flares and painting them Victory Red to match the truck.  How would this look???  I don't have a lot of painting experience and was planning on painting them with spray paint that I got from an auto parts store and then clear coating them.  Any help or suggestions???

Eventually I'm going to paint the front bumper caps and lower valance to match.

spray paint aint gonna fix them,  it wouldn't last a week..

You need to:

Scuff them up with steel wool

Primer them with an etching primer with hardener

then use factory paint,  either spray from dealership, or buy a pint of it and let the body shop do it.

Then clear it.

chevy4x4trucks,

Plasti-kote makes a line of spray paint called "Truck & Sport Utility".  They have some that is number 1579, Victory Red.  I used it to paint the bowtie in my grill.  (I also used it to paint the plactic intake cover under the hood.)  Before I installed it, I held it up to the paint on the body and it matched perfectly, as far as I was concerned.  I wasn't too concerned about it being exact anyway since it's location is not close to any of the red body panels.  With the flares, they will right there next to the body panels and might be quite noticable in not painted well.

The 11 oz. cans were about $3-$4 at Advance Auto Parts.
