I went to tires plus yesterday to get my oil changed. Everything was fine, there was no wait but after i paid i got into my truck drove 1/8 of a mile and my engine cut off on me. they towed my truck back to tires plus so they could tell me that there was no oil in the engine, not one drop, in the middle of them trying to fix my truck i noticed they had a large torch wrench up on my engine yanking on it till they broke the wrench... now my tuck is in the shop and im stuk driving a van.

can somone please tell me what all could possably be damaged. Sad to think a mechanik forgot to put oil in an engine during an oil change.

It was quick because they forgot to put the oil in...

If that's the case where it just quit, I wouldnt settle for anything less than a *NEW* motor. I'd fight that till the death.

I agree on the NEW engine. a short list of what was effected by no oil. Oil pump, crank bearings, rod bearings, cam, cam bearings ect...... get a RENTAL FOR FREE and insist on a GM new Dealership installed with full 36000 warrenty.

the engine was turning over and the guy said that he burned up my starter trying to start it... he said that he would put a new starter in it and a new battery in it for free.

HUH.... If everything was fine it woulda started right up. DO NOT TAKE THAT CRAP EXCUSE. Insist on talking to thier insurance company and get that sucker away from them.... get it to a Dealership so it is fully documented. A dealership is gona want everything they screwed up repaired correctly for a warrenty on thier work. For that matter find the best shop you can. you have the option on insurance repairs for it to ba at your place of Your chosing. Contact their insurance quickly..

It almost sounds like they were trying to turn the motor over with the wrench, like the motor had seized up. Demand a replacement motor from G.M. No dirty rebuild here. Settle for nothing but a motor from GM. Bummer. I feel for you.

Good luck, Mark

my father told me to take it to a dealership too but i really wanted so others opinion on the matter. by the way it is a 99 silverado V8 vortec 4.8 123000 miles on it has had 3 tranny rebuilds and never had any engine problems NEVER!!!! There is not one engine mod but was planning lots of mods for it. I had just finished rebuilding the sound system in it last week and have m3 mirrors in the mail now

That's exactly what they did---broke the engine loose.

My sister gave me an 88 toyota tercel for my first car. Motor was locked up. 98,000 miles and not one oil change. I figured I'd try to break it loose and see if it would run. Sure enough, drove it till it had 200,000 on it.

I personally would learn to do my own oil changes....reguardless of what anyone thinks. This is a prime example.

There's no telling the damage done to the inside of the motor after that---it more than likely got super heated, lots of metal shavings, etc. No way in hell I'd settle for a starter and battery---I'd go for the motor. I smell a lawyer in the air...

I agree with MIGHTY HD...learn to change your own oil, or have a GM dealer do it. Its worth the extra effort/money to make sure some monkey doesn't "forget" to put oil in. I never trust quicky oil change places...I've heard way too many horror stories like this one. Sorry it had to happen to such a nice truck man...

A buddy of mine a while ago had the filter pop off while driving home from an oil change shack...seized it up. Now that I think about it, it happened to 2 of my friends.

Both got a new motor put in....no lawyer required.

You do the same, any alternative is unacceptable.

these things happen too often unfortunately...... you weren't re-acting one of those PROLONG infomercials were you??

yeah right

whatever you do, don't go to jiffy lube. with my mom's old car, she went there for an oil change, and they topped off the power steering fluid. well, the car didn't have power steering, and those jokers put P/S fluid in her brake lines. needless to say, the car caught fire and the city FD had to come out. Jiffy Lube wouldn't admit liability, and she got screwed because she didn't take it right to "their" garage. don't use those joke oil change shacks.

So they're running an oil drain shop not an oil change shop? Tell them you want a new motor and the 6 quarts of oil they forgot.

I'll agree with the above posts. Go to the parts store and pick up a set of ramps and a drain container and get your hands dirty every 3000 miles. Like they say. If you want a job done right...................

Anyway, good luck getting her back on the road.

I quit going to these places after they got caught twice not greasing the upper ball joints, and another time put 6 and a half quarts in a vehicle that only takes 5.

I watched that guy add oil, and check the dip stick, add more, check again, but not waiting for the added oil to get down to the oil pan. He was new, and apparently not trained at all.

Sorry to hear about your truck that sucks! I quit going to those places when the last place told me they would put in Castrol 5w-30 and i watched the tech put in 10w-40 pennzoil! they were even charging me a couple of bucks more for the Castrol! After a screaming match they sent me away and i went to another place and got it changed making sure they had Castrol 5w-30. It was funny watching the techs face when all this clean oil came out of the pan. (dog turning head sideways look) I was out of state on vacation or i would have done it myself. They asked me when the last time i changed the oil and I said it had been a few thousand miles. :chevy::crackup:
