2005 Nav/Radio Question

I've checked the manual for the vehicle and or the Nav Radio and couldn't find an answer. I'm hoping somone here can clue me in.

 

In certain circumstances, when turning down the radio (with either the steering wheel controls or the radio knob) regardless of source the volume will go from one level where sound is still audbile to muted.

 

In other circumstances, we're able to turn down the volume where it gradually gets quieter and quieter. We have the auto volume turned on, and have not changed the setting.

 

In case it matters, this is in a Denali XL.

After it mutes itself, does turning the knob up make it gradually go back up or does it jump back up to where it was before you started turning it down?

I found on my 2004 Nav that the sound would do that if the Automatic Volume Compensation was enabled. If you disable that feature, you will have finer control of the volume, but may have to adjust at higher speeds to compensate for increased road noise. Good luck.
