Yeah you can set it for the type of music you listen to.  Turn your radio down a bit to normal level hit the auto tone button every 5 seconds or so.  You should hear the music change tone slightly between the different settings.

 

Now how does the SCV work?  I've messed w/ it but never really noticed a change.

Auto Tone has preset bass, midrange and treble settings built in for different types of music.  Plus it has one setting where you can set your own custom settings.

 

SCV is a great thing IMO.  It automatically increases the volume as the vehicle increases speed to compensate for wind/road noise.  That way you don't have to constantly turn down the radio when you come to a stop.  It has 3-4 positions, the further up you push the lever the more pronounced the volume increases are...

I tried to use it three or four times, and always ended up turning it off, it was too much or not enough.  The "Autotone" is a joke, it sounded a lot better, to me anyways, with the treble about straight up, and the bass at about 2 o'clock.  Of course, that bass is all distorted,but at a mighty almost 2 watts per channel (there was a test report run on the HU, I don't know the URL, but it was pretty sad) , that's to be expected.  

 

I'm putting my stock H/U in a plastic bag, and sticking it in the closet until the time to sell the truck comes.  Unless it goes sour on me, that should be 2006 or so at the earliest.

I always run the SCV at the first "notch" up from the bottom or off position.  Any higher and sierra1 is right, it is too much...
