Going to order a GMC 1500HD 4x4 SLT - getting the main options - like the locking rearend , trailer/tow package , skidplates, (xm radio) -

Questions - 3.73 or 4.10 rearend?

any other options that you consider nice/nessary?

Thanks ....

Even though I still don't want them, if it was free, I would have gotten the power locks. It's impossible to reach over to unlock the passenger side door. But I'm anti-electrical like that.

Engine block heater and spare tire lock. Both are cheap at time of order and quite expensive to add later. Even if you don't use them, they will help later, when you eventually sell the truck.

Go with the 3.73 rearend. Don't bother with the entertainment system either. Save the $1000...you can install some sweet aftermarket entertainment for half that amount. You should have most of what you need with the SLT "D" package. This is the uplevel SLT decor..

Rear seat entertainment (radio controls in console) Got it, Love it!

The in-dash 6-disk CD radio ( I wish I had)

Get the good mirrors, they are worth the bucks

Glad to see you are going SLT!!!!! :fume:

Go with the 4.10 rear, that way when you upgrade to larger tires you will be OK and stay with the posi trac diff too

The price of the quadrasteer is kind of steep but might be worth it if you can afford it.

Make them throw in some nice floor mats too and don't forget a hat :fume:

DIC, it is nice to be able to change the way all the alarms, display, and lights work.

The power heated mirrors that come with the slt are good. I always need a blind spot mirror so the blinker things would get covered anyway.

Last block heater I had on a deisel (don't think you need it for the gas) I forgot to unplug it and pulled the connector right off the truck.

If you are camping with a trailer the dual battery, with isolator, is nice. You can use up the entire battery and still be able to start the truck. Same with after market sound system or inverters.

410 gears because you know you are going to put bigger tires on it.

You are right to figure this out befor you order. Nothing worse than a new truck not the way you want it.

Hear! Hear! :fume::cheers:

All GM trucks claim to have the Driver Information Center, but the option doesn't explain that the optional version has the aforementioned items which are accessed ONLY by way of buttons on the steering wheel (or the hack we have done here). You WILL want this.

You will also want power folding mirrors. Press a button and the mirrors fold in. This is handy for the car wash or going through narrow bank drive-ins.

Not to get off-topic but does anyone have a link to this article? I read it before but don't have a link. Is it possible to just buy a new wheel and not the full cluster or do you need both? I don't want my milage all messed up.

Do the Quadrasteer thing! You'll be able to park that beheamoth anywhere. I'm glad I got it. Do the DVD also - it's factory installed and under warranty.
