I love this show! I usually don't watch reruns but find myself watching the same episodes over and over again. I feel sorry for the guy from Montana nicknamed Tig. I've watced him get fired 4 times now. I thought Bluebear was a real ass and was glad when he was fired. :chevy: When Dwayne the stupidvisor was verbally abusing Thomas I was glad to see him stand up to him. I think it made Dwayne aware that his way of talking to his workers needs to lighten up at least to his good workers. :) This show makes me appreciate that I work at a place with a strong Union. I am a mailman and would be working 10 to 12 hours everyday because the Postal Service would rather have less workers and pay overtime instead. It is cheaper than paying benefits to more workers.

Although the show is interesting. After watching them fight bicker and argue. After watching them dis each others mechanical abilities. after watcing them redo things on every car(seems like). If I was the owner of the 56 junkyard project after seeing the show I would have taken that sucker back. I guess it seems scripted cause surley no one is a dumb as they appear to be sometimes. One of the biggest eye openers to his buisness practices was when during one show they needed some mirrors. The supplier wouldn't sell to them unless it was paid in full in advance. Evidentally they had an agreement the check would be there on monday and it got there tuesday. They had had problems with Boyd paying before, and since boyd's didn't do what they said the company was not willing to send the mirrors even with payment in hand. I don't know abut you but walmart will take your money anyday you happen to have it. Most other people will to. But to turn down someone with cash in hand says something to me. in their defense some of the cars look preety.

I thought the mirror company was weird for turning down Boyd's business just because the check was a day late. Maybe other issues between them. I forgot to mention that the nice guy who does the painting named Charly has left the show. I saw him working with Chip Foose on another show.

chip foose's show, Overhaulin', is the show out of all these car shows that I like to watch. the man is a freakin' genius. he seems to just get hit with the idea and then it takes him like 5 minutes to draw it out. they do amazing work on that show, plus it is funny to see the people get all scared and tearful when they think their prized junk car was stolen.

I've watched both of those shows, and have points about both that I like and dislike. I used to be a fan of Boyd Coddinton, but after seeing the show, he seems like kind of a d!ck. I really hope that stuff is scripted, because I don't see how someone so famous can have a crew that's so stupid...like the one time they didn't realize that their car didn't have oil pressure until the moment that they were loading it on the trailer to take it where it was going....please!

As far as Foose goes, he's definitely a talented dude, but not every car needs 20's or bigger...some cars just look better with a little bit of rubber IMO. Seems like every car he does is all wheel, no meat. Just my .02.

Kind of a dick? Boyd asks his workers to volunteer to work their weekend. He says to them if you are a team player you will. When one of them doesn't he tells him to think real hard about that decision. The guy then decides to work and cancels his trip. :) Of course they volunteer when they are afraid to piss him off. Still I don't think he is too bad a boss.

where the heck are you at??? I'm a PTF(Jenkins station, in Tulsa) and get have been getting 10-12 hours a day 4-5 days a week the last month. over 53 hours a week the last 4 straight(bceause of a hold down)! we've had 3 people retire, and I was one of the 12 new PTF's hired on in June(of which 6 didn't make it). and guess what this area has a hiring freeze until July(when testing will begin again)!!!! that means no new people until at least november!!! my station covers two full zip codes(68 full routes, 1 brand new aux. we have enough routes over 6 hours street they could create at LEAST 4 new routes in my zone alone). I'm "lucky" enough to be in the all walking zone(oh I take that back one route have 6 curb sides on one split)

on top of that, the union and managemnet are at each others throats 24/7, and it's been that way for the last 30 years from what I understand, which makes working conditions even worse.

and on top of that, we have been short handed on vehicles since june, and the postal service won't give us ANYHING, not even vehicle sitting at other statiosn not getting used. they would rather give them over to rural route carriers. so somr carriers either take their own cars, or don't get to work at all. one guy filed against it, and they sent him to another station(all the others have enough vehicle), so we lost another person.

I work in South San Francisco, I'm 52 and have been a carrier for 15 years. Congratulations on passing your probation. :D I bet you didn't think you would be working so hard. Most people think it's a easy job, I did and boy was it a shock. I was a warehouseman for a Japanese Co. and later with a Teamster warehouse. Neither came close to my experience as a PTF. Running, no lunch getting yelled at all the time. As a ptf you are treated by the USPS as a second class worker and our Union can't help you much. Without our Union there would be no arguments just do it or say sayonara. You would be forced to carry 4 or 5 bundles. We once had 6 ptf's hired as a group and they all quit after 1 week. The good news is someday you will make regular and then have a choice to work the overtime or just your route. When you do get your route it will be much easier not the crazy s**t you are going through now. I'm surprised they would let some city carriers use their own vehicles. Anyway at least you are on your own when you are on the street and get to work outside. It also forces you to exercise and the time seems to fly by. Some advice if you haven't done so already, join the TSP retirement program and contribute at least 5% of your salary. You will get the 5% matching contribution from the USPS. Don't work too hard.

thanks. actually I've been around for 7 months now, and I've earned the reputation as being one of the best carriers in the office(I've literally heard carriers and supervisors say that). I'm proud of that I do my best to earn it. I don't run(unless it's that last missed priority parcel and you gotta scan "end" in two minutes), only skipped about 10 lunches, and never got yelled at becuase I alwyas made a point of getting everything done right on time. Althought when I started I didn't fill out some Express slips out correclty, and they weren't tp pleased with that. they let it go, I hadn't had ANY training on it yet!!!

Sure it is killing me now, guess who they loaded up with all the stuff the reg can't handle? I have a hold down on a route, which the reg is retireing and they have to prove it. I've been told I've got this for at LEAST three months, one has gone by. it's pretty aggravating, watching some lazy carrier whine about not being able to carry so much mail, when I end up carrying my route, plus two hours of his, and we both get back at 6.30.

yeah and being on your own on the street is what keeps us from losing it in my opinion. if I'm out at 6.00, past dark, becuase I have 10 hours of mail, and the customer points out I'm late, you can sure bet he hears about the weak spots in the postal service! I usualy tell them "well if I were going by their time, You still wouldn't be getting it for an hour!"

I knew EXACTLY what I was getting into, my brother is a PTF of around 4 years now, and my father has been in fro around 27 years(he started as a PTF, went to reg(a union stewart), supervisor, and is now a Postmaster. he's also been on the "umps teams" settleing union vs. USPS disagreements, he was the USPS side.)

I was prepared, as my two previous jobs were: pizza delivery, so I already knew local number systems, and vending machine guy, I loaded pop machines all day. yeah I agree this is the most demanding job I've had.

I've only seen a couple of shows....Codington seems like a really bad ungrateful degrading slave driver.

One show was to build a rod, endurance run across country, then show.

He "poo poo'd" the "younger" builders for being too traditional with a classic rod style Ford truck with flathead.

Then on the road..refusing to give them time to fix it and to make sure his rod was running.

The young'ins did get their revenge for winning show over the Cod Rod.

Here Here for Overhaulin' all kinds of cars and trucks with different modifications, not the same ol' looking Cod Rod style vehicle after vehicle even a 57 chevy Cod made it look like Cod.

SnakeEyes, Your dad is a Postmaster and your brother is a ptf, I guess you did know what to expect. 4 years is a long time to be a ptf. It usually takes about 2 to 3 years out here to make regular. You didn't mention anything about the tsp, I'm going to assume you are not in the program. I'm going to try and sell you on it but after this I won't bug you about it. I know when I was young the last thing on my mind was a retirement program. If you decide to save $100 of your earnings every paycheck you would have about $75 after taxes. If you were in the tsp that same $100 would be tax deferred until retirement and would be matched by the USPS. You would have $200 in your tsp account and your earnings on that money would also be tax deferred. Another way to look at it, suppose every paycheck you could bet $100 and would be guaranteed to win, would you turn down that bet?Even worse if you don't bet they will take $25 out of your $100 for taxes. Every paycheck you are not getting the matching contribution you are giving up money that should be yours. At least sign up for the 5% contribution. it only takes 5 minutes to do the paperwork. You can contribute up to 15%, that is what many carriers do if they can afford to. Any amount above 5% is tax deferred but no matching money. still good. Btw you sure have a lot of nice vehicles! :chevy:
