Add another 10 bolt to the scrap pile

I guess the stock 10 bolt didn't like having the clutch dumped at 3k with drag radials on. :D Sad thing is I never made one good pass. I was working my way up in RPM's trying to find the sweet spot to launch at, as it bogged off the line everytime. So I worked my way up to 3k on the last pass, and it bogged right at the tree. It made all kinds of noise comming off the line so I decided that it was time to go home before she broke. Times for that pass are in sig. That was about a month ago. After the rear end started popping and clunking around turns a few days ago I decided to see what I broke.

Here is what I found.

Notice the larger peices on the red rag.

I couldn't get it rotated around so that it showed the broken teeth, I couldn't even see them for myself. But with that amount of metal it's pretty obviouse something is broke. BTW: the car currently has 44,*** miles on it.

I knew a few people in high school that made "posi's" by welding those spider gears together. I exploded a 12bolt rear on my Blazer sending chunks of the pinion through the cover, prompting me to replace it with a 14bolt FF.

Yeah, I have seen a regular posi welded up, but this is a Torsen and I haven't seen one welded before, and from the looks of it there isn't enough room to get a good beed down. I'm just going to keep driving it like it is.

Heh...I did that in my old 81 Silverado. Blew it all over the road.

To add insult to injury, there was a cop behind me when it happened. He kept threatening to call the EPA because there was so much grease all over the road. I was just trying to pick up the pieces,

For once in my (teenage at the time) life, I actually bit my tongue...Probably saved me a trip to the pokey. :D

I am suprised it isn't worse than this. The factory 7.5" gear set you have I figure would have been toast after a few 3k RPM clutch dumps.

BTW, Gear Swaps on F-Bodys..................SSSSSSUUUUUUUUCCCCCCCKKKKKKK. I plan to never, ever, ever, ever do another as long as I live unless it has a Ford 9" in it. Way to much CRAP to dissasemble and reassemble.

It's way worse now. I can't drive the car anymore, Toyota will be seeing all the action now. lol kidding Hopefully I'll be making a trip to dallas this weekend to get a used one. The salvage yards around her want an arm and a leg for em. $750 for one with out tcs, I could rebuild this one for less than that.

try street legal pertformance (slp) website they sell the gm thorsen 7.5 10 bolt but I think they are 28 spline axles take outs when they convert the ss and fire hawks I think they put auburns in .for like $100 that is what i put in my 86 z when i blew the rear for the unteenth time working so far

Pretty ugly. Don't give up on the 10 bolt's yet. Set up properly, I've seen them

live in 10 second cars for some time. Good gears, tight tolerances and a reinforced

cover makes them work very well.

i went with the 9" since i have 4ch abs still and never ever looked back with et streets hooking at 4500+ its a great ride

:chevy: Thankfully there were no cops around when mine grenaded and I was only 2 blocks from home so could use the front to drag it back..

I will be getting a 9" this summer hopefully as I also have 4 channel abs. But right now I'm gonna settle for a used 10 bolt that I'm going to pick up tomorrow. It's only got 3.23's in it though, but it was in an auto car so it should have very little wear. I won't be making any trips to the track with it though. My new set of bfg's will just have to wait.
