Slow Navigation

I just had a Touch Screen Navigation radio put in my 2005 Sierrra Denali and it's working properly. The problem is, it shows my postion but updates slowly, so I'm past my turn before it tells me to turn. Any suggestions?? Can I boost the GPS reception??

Did you add the VSS (vehicle speed signal) wire to the 12pin connector (C2)

It is a dark green wire on the gauge cluster connector in the A4 position and you splice into it and run a wire over to Position "E" on the 12 pin connector (C2) on the nav unit.

I'm new to electronics installing. I had the dealer install this unit. They told me it would not work, but I said to try it. It does work like I've mentioned. It appears that the dealer simply plugged the existing plugs into the back of the nav unit. I found the dark green wire, but where is Position "E" on the 12 pin connector?

Here is the connector end view and I marked the "E" one. Make sure you get the right dark green wire, it has a white tracer on it and it is in the "A4" position (top row fourth wire in from the left with plug end facing you)

Thanks for the tip. I spliced into the dark green wire with the white tracer and wired it into Position "E" on the 12 pin connector. I must not have it connected right because I can still enter destinations while driving. What's the best way to fix the wire into position "E" so it touchs the pin?

This may not fix my problem but it's worth trying. I have also noticed the red GPS indicator in the top left of the screen comes on at times while I'm driving. The instruction manual says GPS appears when the HU cannot determine the accurate position of the vehicle. Do I need another antenna or will repositioning it help. It is currently in its proper location under the dash to the right of the HU.

You may have to get some of the terminal ends for the wire so it makes good contact and stays locked in the connector, the terminals are GM no. 12089649 (bag of 10). If the GPS light is on then that means the GPS signal is low, it may be because of your location or the antenna is mounted in a good location, I moved mine up to the defroster vent opening and it seemed to work better there.

Thanks.  I'll get the terminals and move the antenna. I appreciate all the input.

One thing I forgot to say was that if the nav was ran without the VSS it may take a little time for it to learn when you first hook it up.

My 05 YXL Denali had the wire already in place when I hooked up the 0099 TNR

What # antenna did the dealership install, and did they pull the dash cover to install it?

I have the 2005 Sierra Denali Crew Cab Pick-up Truck. It does not come from the factory with the option to upgrade to Navigation.

My Nav system is working perfectly now. I thought I had spliced into the right wire when in fact I hadn't. I'll explain for those who may have made the same mistake I did:

When I was told to splice into the dark green wire with the white tracer on the gauge cluster connector, I had no idea what this connector was so I searched for a picture of the connector. Lo and behold, the picture of this connector exactly resembles the second connector that plugs into the back of the HU beside the 12 pin connector (C2). And wouldn't you know it, the 4th wire from the left on the top row with the connector facing you is, you guessed it, dark green with a white tracer. This is the wire I first spliced into. I don't know what that wire is for, but it is not the VSS wire. After further searching and reading on this forum I finally learned that the gauge cluster connector is actually behind the instrumant gauge. Imagine that!! It's working perfectly now.

Again, I greatly appreciate all the input from this forum.

Oh, to answer your questions. The antenna part number they installed is 15135178 and yes they pulled the dash and installed this antenna where it should be installed from the factory.

I am new and this is my first post but I have been lurking and found all the info useful. Now to my problem. I have a 2005 Sierra Denali crewcab with XM and OnStar.

I upgrade the Bose radio to the Touch screen Navigation Radio. Install was a snap including my learning how to remove the dash. My only problem is the slow navigation of the unit. You are pass the exit before the vehicle indicator shows the exit. Funny part is that voice guidance is spot on.

It appears that my truck has the VSS wire on the instrument pod and the radio, however I jumped the connectors to see if there was a fault in the circuit. Drove the truck, no change. Recalibrated the vehicle position.

I would appreciate any help, I am about out of my Techincal knowledge.

Thanks
