Those w/GM Bug Guard

I see the square holes under the hood. How does it bolt on? Part # for them?

Do they require the rubber hood protectors stuck on the top of the hood to keep it from scratching?

I am thinking about getting one. Anyone have any opinions on these? + or -'s?

I had one on my '95 and it started scratching the hood. I didn't like the wind noise and side mirror vibration. I took it off after a couple of weeks.

I don't really want to 3M those rubber protectors onto my hood.

Also.. I washed my truck down real good w/dawn last night to try and get all of the bugs and tar off. The bugs right on the front of the hood wouldn't come off. What do you guys use to get this off? This is why I am considering the bug guard.

Don't have a GM bug deflector, but here's what I can offer.

-If you don't see any holes, you're gonna have to drill like I did.

-None require rubber bumpers, but if you do a lot of highway driving you'll probably want them.

-If you don't want them on the hood, I know I didn't, put them on the inside lip of the bug deflector. They're there if needed and out of the way when you clean. Plus they won't pull off any paint if they come off.

-Try "Goof Off" to clean bugs and tar off the hood. It's at most stores.

The 99+ trucks have factory holes to mount these with. Sqaure holes that require some snaps or something.

With all due respect Mr. DigUout sir, didn't I read a post not too long ago about problems with Goof Off taking paint off someones truck or did I dream this???

Please tell me the thread is there because I don't want to have to come to terms with the fact that when I dream, I dream of a product called "Goof Off"......:smile:

I too am looking for a bug guard and wondering which one to get. I had one on my old style ext cb and it made my back windows vibrate. My truck is white and am wondering which color would look best on it.

GM bug guard does use the square holes already in our aluminum hoods. It makes the installation pretty easy. The GM tech who installed mine before I picked it up put the black stick-on protectors on my hood. I'd recommend sticking them to the deflector itself if you get one.

I recently took mine off for a different look and had to remove the stickers and re-wax the area.

For removing bugs from the paint, I use a 'bug sponge' found at most auto parts stores. It is a square sponge with a string mesh covering the outside. This is a safe way to get the little carcases off without damaging the paint or removing the wax. I use one everytime I wash the rig.

I'd price the LUND Interceptor bug guard, I think this is the exact same unit GM offers. Not positive though.
