Swtiched Power under the hood?

I am looking for something I can tap under the hood to open a relay when the ignition switch is turned to on. At first I was going to use the DRL, but they switch off when the head lights come on, and I need this relay to be open whenever the vehicle ignition is on. Any help is appreciated.

What kind of vehicle and what are you trying to tap into it for? Scanner, cb, etc? In my 99 Silverado, I tapped into the trailer wiring box thats under the steering column that has all the fuses for all the trailer stuff. Use a test light and check each contact as you turn the key on. At least one of them should light up the test light when you turn on the ignition. I had my police scanner wired to the ignition so it would only be on when the key was on.

Well, I want something that will trigger the relay/solenoid I am going to install to switch the 12volt accesory line going to the trailer stuff. I have not had the multimeter out ther to test yet, and figured somebody had already figured this out. I would prefer not going through the firewall, but, it is not the end of the world. I will probably end up taping the switched line for the radio.
