tried sea foam for the first time this afternoon in my 4.8 with 68k.let half the pint suck through the brake booster line then poured the other half in the gas.i followed the instruct. on the can and let it sit for 5 min after it sucked in aand then started up and drove about 3 mile.is there a better way to use it?should i have let it sit longer before starting back and can you use the whole pint on the to end at once?

Use it according to the directions on the can and you can't go wrong. One thing to remember is to change your oil soon, at least within the next 500 miles or so. The sea foam gets past the rings and dilutes the oil so it is important to change it as well. It has good results from those I know that have used it.

I understand that GM's top end cleaner works really well also.

used seafoam exactly as the directions stated but my truck only smoked as the stuff was being sucked in.after i turned it off for the 5 min and restsrted it didnt smoke hardly any so i thought i goofed something up.i thought everyone had ttold me it would smoke like crazy on the restart?

It's best to either stall or all but stall the engine out then shut the key off and let it sit............mine smoke like crazy for a few miles afterwards.

just googled sea foam, ive never done anything like that to any of my cars. the only cleaners i really use are like STP gas treaters. Does this stuff seriously work?

STP and the likes of it pale in comparison, the stuff works exactly as promised and is priced right. The only issue I have with it is the goofy name.

The stuff definitely works...so does GM Top End Cleaner (but it's a little pricey compared to Seafoam). On a few occasions, I used a boro-scope and peeked through the spark plug hole prior to and after performing the service, and the difference in the combustion chamber was amazing.

i did have one curious q about seafoam and the smoke.my trucck only smoked while the seafoam was being ingested after i let it sit for 5 min and started it back it didnt smoke hardly any is that because i dint let it sit longer.btw a mechanic at my shop told me to be careful and not cause it to hydrolock the engine he said if you press the gas pedal upon restart after the treatment it would do that and bend the crankshaft

ok, im kind of new to GM, like i know the basic stuff, but what is seafoam? why do you have to put it in the engine?? like i said, i kind of know more about ford and dodge, so any help is appreciated.

i just found out about it on the site myself its a top engine cleaner the way i used it by trying to clean carbon out of my 68k engine also poured some in my tank it ays you can add to the oil also but i forget the ounce per quart ratio but its on the the can.seafoams been around for a long time and i got mine at advanced auto i guess most national brand stores carry it .seafoam also has a website seafoamsales.com.

thanks volfan, did you notice anything after using it or no? and do you have to use it or is it just to help clean it? b/c just from reading that people are using it to clean the engine, i get the impression that they build up carbon on the valves and such and that you have to clean it every once in a while, or is it that you just want to make sure its running top notch?

i thought i would use it because i drive short trips and use cheap gas .or cheaper gas so i thought it would help with the carbon buildup and it does seem to start and run smoother and also idle smoother
