Anybody have the Preditor programmer, How do you like it ? I'm getting a GREAT price on a new one that I can't pass on, I should be getting it tuesday or so.

Experiences would be great, What can these hand helds do ? like removing codes and tire size changes and can this be done on another truck

I have one. You can read and remove codes on any GM vehicle but all other things are for you truck only. I love mind because you can adjust things like air/fuel ratio, spark knock, shift points(RPM or MPH),shift pressure, rev limit, And other things. I hope this help.

Thanks, What kind of power did you notice, and was it easy to program I don't no anything about air/fuel, trans pressure. Will the manual explain this or is there a tune allready there. like 87,89,92

Frist thing will be to remove some of the TQM

Mod's to start, Mac cold air intake, magnaflow muff.

It increase d my power enough were my truck stop downshifting on hills. It come program for 91 or higher octane. As for as TQM 99-02 you have to get a custom tune but 03 and higher you can adjust it with the programmer. It is easy to install, just plug it in and follow the instruction. I did not mess with timing and spark but I did change shift pressure and points.

I have an 03 . I have used it to remove the tq managment. Works like a charm. Don't expect un real expectations, but you will notice the difference. Just follow the on screen directions and read up as best you can. Make timing and fuel adjustments in slight increments. Adjust the tranny full on and back off if nessacary. I backed down the tow haul switch function due due harsh shifting but adjust standard mode all the way up. There is a chart in your manual for upshift and down shift recomendations. Keep the rev limit to 6k or so. As tempting as increasing the top speed is please only allow for what your tires are rated at.

I have one on my '04 and love it. It really brought the truck new life and was the best $300 I've spent on performance mods on any vehicle I've ever owned.

You can also buy the parts and spend like an extra $120 and they'll write a custom tune for you. You get the advantage of a custom PCM with the option of removing the tune for warranty purposes and it still comes out cheaper than what most custom writers want which ultimately is what swayed me to the Predator.

Well it's in,

I just did the 87 tune, it was getting dark, so I will see about going into parameters tomorrow.

Where did you go to remove the TQM the manual doesn't say anything about it Thanks in advance

After you install the tune, go to modify tune. This is where you can adjust many parameters. Tq managment is either on or off. Off removes tq managment. You can set rev limit top speed(rating for your tire please) You can also adjust the fuel and timing here also. Gears, tire's and other stuff. Do not adjust fuel trim(i believe thats it's called. This function is for blowers or turbo's it will add alot more fuel.

It is kinda trial and error cool thing is it can be reset easy. Just go slow and write down anything you can do. much easier to make changes if you are sure what you did.

Thanks,

This what I was thinking, but was unsure, the manual is pretty vague on some things, and when you say tranny full on, please advise

Posted

Full on is vague? :withstupid: Let's see You can modify line pressue and quickness of shifts by 15% over or under the tunes values. I set the firmness and quickness to their max values to get a good shift feel but it's not harsh. You can adjust this in tow haul mode also. I found the tune to be harsh in t/h. So I adjusted down about 10%. With unleaded fuel I adjusted the timming to 7% and fuel to 10% with no knock. 10 and12% respectivly gave me a little ping. your results may vary start low and drive. Go slow. Let me know If i can help anymore

On the quickness minus is quicker but it says this on screen, just follow the on screen instructions.

Got it set up, and what can I say WOW there is some power in these GM eng's that GM doesn't want us to have,

Thanks, Guy's. I set the Mid and WOT trans pressure a little higher, turned the TQM off and that alone was noticeable right off, I CAN SPIN THE TIRES from a stoped position. (and I mean SPIN the tires) the shifting is tighter now not jurky but solid.

Not sure I would say that because GM like Ford and Dahlmer has to conform to emmsion compliance certification for 50,000 miles of more and tune engines accordingly. You cannot greatly alter opertions of the engine without negatively effecting emissions too. I would love to see a before and after dyno and emissions tests of some of these customs tunes to see how legal they really are at times. It soes not mean I am against them completely I just question their overall impact because if there was no negative impact from them, Detriot would use more aggressive setting from factory. .

Snowman I believe you need to do some research on what a tune does. The factories has a software program called tq managment. This effectively detunes the vehicle. under certain conditions. This helps them save warrenty claims for weak parts. IE ...transmissions. Normally a well tuned vehicle will perform better and get better milage than one detuned for warrenty sake. I noticed an increase in milage after my tune. Why? Because my truck no longer searches for gears. I can accelerate at highway speeds with out it downshifting. I do not have to push on the throttle as hard to do the same work. Now alot of guy's (never me) drive harder and faster with this new found power. Some waste gas. Some gain. I think you need to do a little more research on the subject. You might consider a custom tune yourself. I myself did a mpg comparison (unscientific) 16.5ish without 17.7ish with. Everybody that has them easily passes emmision testing. I think your just confused on what we really acomplishing with the tune. The PCM retards the timing and subtracts fuel from off idle to 2000 rpm when under a load. then again at 4kplus under a load. The effecincy of the engine is decreased while doing this. Effectivly doing what you think we are doing by custom tuning.

At fullsizechevy. in thier performance thread there is a thread about tq man. Good reading and graphs showing what is goin on when tq man. kicks in.
