Squealing noise after shift kit install

Recommended Posts

I put a Transgo shift kit in over the weekend. It was straightforward, but took most of one the day to do it. I also installed a B&M Hi-tech trans cooler and refilled with Redline D4 ATF. The difference is like night and day. The upshifts are firm and quick, and the lag from drive to reverse is diminished.

One thing I notice is that when I punch the gas at low speeds and the trans downshifts into first, I hear a squealing noise for just a second. This doesn't happen during the downshift from any other gear. It sounds like a belt slipping. I hope that's what it is and not something with the trans. Has anyone else had this happen? The downshift is very hard and fast, so the belt may be slipping with the quick jump in RPMs.

Thoughts?

I wish! I think I would feel it if the tires were breaking loose. And I opted only for "medium" firmness. It sounds like it is coming from either the engine compartment or under the truck. Maybe I will change the belt and see what happens.....

Definatly the belt. Mine started that after I added my billit servo's.

Mine is doing this to. What is the solution?

Are we talking about the serpentine belt?

Is there such a thing as a better belt?

Thanks.

I checked my belt yesterday and it looks fine. It's tight and not worn. I sprayed some belt dressing on it and when I drove it today, the squealing was still there on downshifts to 1st gear. I guess I will try changing the belt unless someone has a better solution?

I have the same problem when it shifts into second and third gear. Try a gatorback belt and a dayco belt tensioner, that should help.

my belt chirped all the time on my LT4, I had transgo installed w/ the high stall - full race option.

Try finding a serpentine w/ deep grooves, I usually use napa and they're shallow.

Also, it's recommended not to spray belt dressing on serpentine drive, it can clog up the grooves in the pullies and cause loss of traction and possible thrown belt (worse case). pull the belt, check all the accy pully grooves for any gunk that may have built up, clean them out w/ steel brush and brake cleaner.

in the future try spraying a small amount of wd-40 on the belt, I know it sounds crazy, but it actually softens the rubber.

Doesn't our trucks have a 2nd belt for the a/c? I haven't really gotten that far into this truck myself, not sure if it has a tensioner or is stress loaded.

I installed my trans go kit last night in my 00, that along w/ a pcmforless tune has turned the truck into a monster! I didn't seat my 2-4 accumulator assy all the way , took it down the road and it popped out when the truck tried to shift to 2nd. I lost a qt & 1/2 of fluid and burned the crap out of my hand on the cat, but thank god for the heat shield, it kept everything from falling out.

How many gold shims did you use? did you check to make sure the band moved 1/8"?

I used two gold shims. The band was tight but it did move back and forth. I will remove the belt and inspect it and the pulleys closer. I guess I will try that Gatorback belt and Dayco tensioner. Any idea where to get these? Are they local perts store items?

I haven't got the belt or the tensior yet but i heard it from TJ and Zippy. I think you might be able to get them at napa or some local parts store. They won't get rid of all the belt squal but it should help a little bit. Post back if it helped or not.
