The fuel pump on my 2000 Tahoe has developed a loud high pitched whistle. At first it just did it once in a while, now it does it all the time. Of course it is louder when the fuel load is low. Does anyone have any experience with this? Will the pump eventually fail? Dealer says no, the pump is not going to fail but the only way to stop the noise is to replace the fuel pump "module" at a cost of $580.00 ($400 for the module $180 labor)

Any input is appreciated.

Thank You,

My fuel pump has been whining noticeably since the day I bought the truck - a '99 Chevy K1500 (obs). I have asked several service managers and mechanics about it and have always been told it's the "nature of the beast". So far, over 6 years and 70,000 miles later it's still working and whining. It bothers me too, but spending almost $500 to fix it - with no guarantee that the new one won't whine - bothers me more.

I am with everyone else.

My 2001 K2500 'Burban makes a whistle that's sometimes pretty loud. Other times its quiet. It's been like that for 100,000 miles. Seems to get louder when I'm at higher altitudes too, but that could just be coincidence!

Not to worry.
