I posted before on what I thought was a lack of performance from the new Vortec motors. I'm not bashing, just observing differences that I've seen.

On my way to work, I travel down a mostly deserted 3 mile strecth of two lane, no cops, nice and flat with a few real easy curves. If I'm coming to work at an odd time when I know that I'll be the only one, I'll open up the trucks once in a while.

My '95 1 ton CC 4x4, TBI 350 can get up to about 105 and just won't go any faster. I think that's pretty respectable for 200 hp in a the aerodynamic equivalent of a 7000 lb phone booth.

My wife's '03 Tahoe, 4.8l will only squeak out 95 mph. It is advertised at 275hp and has a 3.42 rear gear. Around town it will set you back in the seat, but I can't seem to feel that hp on the highway.

Just wondering...

Sounds like you're hitting the speed limiter to me...

My truck with a 3.42 and 4.8L will wrap the speedo past an indicated 120MPH pretty easily, with only a performance tune and exhaust.

Before the tune, it would fly up to ~100 and fall flat on it's face.

It must be the rev limiter. I've heard that in the TBI trucks, the reve limiter was 102, so about 105 on the speedo isn't too far off.

As well as that 4.8 pulls around town, the limiter must be set at 95.

Thanks for the tip!
