I was wondering if insurance companies base their rates on this kind of info?

GMC HD boast highest quality rating for trucks

I guess it was a dumb question, but heah, I have seen even dumber ones on this forum and I try not to come across like a smartass.

Not trying to be a smartass but maybe you were inferring that the quality ratings were insurance crash ratings - those I'm sure do play a part in insurance premiums.

Thanks, it makes more sense that crash ratings would effect premiums, and not JD Power. It should though. If you think about it, an angry, unhappy driver may be more accident prone than a satisfied one. Wishful thinking, huh! :seeya:

The formula to calculate your insurance rates has as many variables as a lunar landing calculation. They use vehicle value, crash ratings, how much damage they think it can inflict on other vehicles, bla...blah...blah.

Pretty safe bet to say not many things make the rate go down.

I am sure. Not all insurance policies are for covering accidents. Warranty is a good example of another form of insurance (factory, extended and after market). And those rates are based on risk of repair and cost associated with each problem.

But in terms of your liability insurance or typical full coverage accident insurance, I doubt it has any direct impact. That is more a case of the risk your vehicle with you inside will have an accident and what the cost would be to fix it. It might have an indirect impact because quality tends to feed higher residual values which in turn typically leads to higher repair costs.
