2000 S-10 trailer brake wiring

I will be pulling a small pop-up this summer, the trailer has brakes. How hard will it be for me to wire up a controller? I'm thinking about farming this out since wires have to be run to the back for the brake and Aux. power, unless they're already there. I do not have the UY7 trailer wiring. I have the plug I need (7-pin), just need to get it mounted and plugged into my 4-wire with the additional wires connected.

Its really easy, but you do need to tap into and run wires, its easy but for a good install it takes the better part of the day.

Mine took me about 5 or 6 hours to do, but I already had a power wire run from the bat for a topper the previous owner had on the truck.

I'd ask for some tips on the wires to tap but I'm sure ours are different, yours being a 97 and mine a 2000. Any tips on where to get those wires through the firewall? As I said, I may just farm it out, I also want the plug mounted on the face of the rear bumper for a more solid mount and no chance it'll get dragged on the groud offroad. Not easy to drill through the bumper, so I may leave it to a shop with the right tools...

Its easy to drill the bumper, get a hole saw, i forget the size, but thats what I used, and it worked great. Took a total of 5 minutes to drill the hole and mount it. I don't have a picture but it is mounted next to my plate on the drivers side, yes our bumbers are different but there should be a nice flat spot out of the danger zone on yours also, that is right next to the plate on either side.

You have to tap into the brake wire by the brake pedal, I believe its white for GM but you need to check, its the wire that comes out of the brake light switch connected to the pedal, then a power and ground, and the other wire goes to the 7 pin plug.

there is a place where the antenna comes through that the wires can be ran through.

Is there a wire tap you suggest for under the dash, or do you suggest solder? What size wire do you reccomend? I used 3M Scotch Lok t-tap connectors for my OHC install, they worked well but for something like the trailer brakes I think I want something a little more positive. I'll probably want butt-connectors at the rear, where the wire I run splices into the 7-pin plug harness, and I now see the plug I bought has them on there already.

I don't think soldering is needed for the connection for the brake controler, is uses a signal, no real power travels through that wire, I soldered the power and just grounded the - to a bolt under the dash.
