What kind of new shocks?

What's up guys?? I was just wondering what the best shocks are and that give the smoothest ride for a 99 Z71. I took it to the dealership and they wanted to charge me an arm and a leg for stock replacements. SO, let me know what the best ones are.

Also, my tailgate cables snapped and GM said they hadn't been recalled for the 99 truck, only for the 2001 and up. Please let me know what is going on or a website I can find the recalls on.

I'm running Bilstein HD's now. Firmer than stock but way better cornering and towing and nice and smooth on the highway.

Another vote for the Bilstein HD's. I replaced the stock Tenneco's at 36k with the HD's and now have almost 81k on the truck. Still rides great.

Got the Monroe Reflexes on mine, at 28000. Much better, not as much body roll in corners, firmed up the suspension alot. Not too bad off road either. Lifetime warranty. Don't get the stock replacements, you can buy the same shocks at Autozone for 30.00 a piece. They quoted me something like 200 per shock when I called about mine. Parts guy at the dealership even said I could get better shocks than the stock replacements for half the price. I did!

Have to ask what do you do with your truck? Go off roading? I go off roading a lot and love my Rancho 9000 RSX shocks

I mostly drive on the interstate and around town. No offroading for me, too expensive. I transport my motorcycle alot so the shocks need to be able to handle some weight and ride smooth. thanks for all the input.

anybody had any experience with the edelbrock shocks or gabriel???

Is there something special required in replacing the front shocks? I know that they arn't strut type. Does the shock just unbolt out of the center of the coil spring?

Any help would be appreciated!

It's nothing bad at all. With the truck on stands, just unbolt the bottom two nuts, and when you unbolt the top one it will fall right out. The only thing I had to do different with mine was when I installed the new one. I had to pick up on the a-arm with another jack so I could attach the bottom two bolts. It took about an hour, taking my time, for the front and rear sets. (Note: I have a 2wd, it might be different on the 4wds, since they have the torsion bar setups)

Good luck!

I've had good luck w/ monroe sensa tracs and reflexes, just take each one out of the box and make sure their seals aren't leaking first. other than that, good ride.

here's the recal webpage: http://www.alldata.com/recalls/

You can also sign up for the GM owner link website, it's stupid, but keeps you informed of corporate happenings and whatnot.
