Parking Brake shoe "clips" fix on NBS

Recommended Posts

Doing the parking brake adjust & brake bleed today on my '01 Yukon and found out that

Another one bites the dust!

All I thought I was going to need to do today was just adjust the star wheel on the parking brake shoes. Well the passenger side was fine (parking brake shoe is upside down on that side and stays in place. But the drivers side Oh Shi.......That dang clip did not do its job! The drivers side is just the oposite of the passenger side (right side up)....Funny If it was a horse shoe (which it resembles) all the luck should be on the side thats open at the top (just goes to show ya how bass ackwards GM did these 1500 series Parking brakes

I thought the '01 models & up already had the "fixed clips" installed.

Anyone have the new part number for the clips ?

Part number for the replacement parking brake shoes ?

Does NAPA, Pep Boys, Advanced parts carry replacement shoes ?

I know that the napa shoes come with four clips, 2 old stlye, and 2 redesigned ones. Sounds like you may need a rotor as well also.

Thanks Cosmo :ughdance:

Rotors are OK, I caught it before there was any metal to metal contact. The linning on the PB shoe was worn down to about 1/16" thickness in one area only (lowest part ).

The rest of the shoes almost look new.

There is no gouging of the inner drum surface of the rotor and there is no lip worn in yet.

I'll check out NAPA. I also went to the Raybestos website and they list a "Parking Brake Parts Kit" for the Yukon and also replacement shoes. I will more than likely replace the rear pads also with some ceramic pads. It's one of those "might as well do it now"

Does anyone have a link to a thread that talks more about this parking brake problem? I had to adjust mine as well and I'm curious as to what exactly the recall is and what's wrong with them. I also had to adjust mine and one is on upside down, but I'm not sure I totally understand the problem, after I adjusted it, the parking brake worked well. I don't want to hi-jack this thread so if someone just has a link I'd really appreciate it!
