DIC help please

Recommended Posts

OK, I'm new so please put this where it belongs.

I tried a search, but no info found for what I'm asking, so here goes. I recently bought an '05 K3500 with the DIC and steering wheel controls.

When I was driving a few other trucks, I noticed there was a business/personal odometer, and an instant fuel economy mode.

On my '05 there isn't this option on my scrolling through the DIC.

Is this something they stopped for '05? Or am I not finding the right way to access this option?

Thanks in advance for any advise or help...

First off,Welcome aboard :chevy:

And no,your not doing anything wrong,GM took the "business/personal" trip odometer and "instant MPG" feature out for '05.

I agree, WTF?!?!?

I leave mine on instant MPG most of the time and I use the business as a tank-to-tank check on fuel mileage. The personal is the running average since I've owned the truck.

I can't believe they dropped them. All because someone was probably too stoopid to figure it out and complained to GM. That, or it cost an extra 50 bucks per truck. It's not like they had to pay for the design, it was already done.

Thanks for the info and help. These really aren't the most important things for me, just glad to know I wasn't missing something...

I may have a few more questions on these newer trucks later on.

How 'bout some bigger (taller) tires???? Even my wife made a comment on how "small" they are. :flag: I am guessing a 30" tire is going to throw my computer out.. I am not really ready to invest in bigger tires now anyway.

I also need to find someone to buy my '99 K2500 suburban. :chevy:

Thanks again, Ricky...

I am in the same boat, I picked up my 3500 last week. Where the heck is the Instant mileage. I know it is gone.

Can someone tell me what "Elevated Idle" is and when I should use it.

I guess they removed the instant mileage so you don't know what bad mileage you are getting,.

I still can't beleive the mileage difference between 2500 and 3500.

Elevated Idle is for the DMax, and is a nice option for cold weather warm ups. You will have to call the service department on temps, because I am not sure. I think it is below 30*F outside or 120* engine temp that activates the elevated idle. It just bumps it up to 1500 RPM to warm the engine up faster. Believe me you will need it if you have cold winters. Mine is an 03 and it does not have that option. No matter how long I warm it up, it will never reach operating temperatures unless I drive it for about 5 miles (our winters usually see low teens at night). This makes the leather real cold when you run out and the heater is still blowing cold air and the truck has been running for 10 minutes. I just read the option for the 05's so my numbers may not be quite correct, but you get the idea. Just wait until the temps outside drop and turn it on.

i can't beleive gm took a nice information center like my 03 has and srewed it up for the 05. i was thinking of getting an 05 3500, but after seeing that i'm just going to wait and see what comes down the line for next year or the year after.

i actually use all the functions of my 03 DIC. i use the personal trip to track each tank. use the business trip to track mpg and mileage between oil changes and sometimes mpg over a long trip (several tanks). then i use the 3rd computer to track short trips that take less than a tank, this is the one in with the inst economy scroll function, as that avg. econ can be reset by itself also giving a 3rd option.
