Strange Noise

While driving the truck over the weekend, I heard what sounded like a fan blowing really hard under the hood. It lasted for just a few minutes before stopping, but it repeated the cycle when I started again from a stop.

 

In HS and college I had an old Toyota pickup that made a similar noise when the fan clutch started going out of it. Could this be the same?

Sounds like the fan clutch to me, but I don't think its "going out". Its doing its job. When the truck reaches a certian temp, it engages and sounds like a blown torch!. When it cools down, it'll free spin and not make as much noise. As long as the noise comes and goes, I think its ok. If it constantly makes the noise and never quiets down, or if your truck is running hot all the time, then I'd say its the fan clutch.
