Spare Tire Clearence

I was able to get my 315/70/17 tire to fit in the spare tire space. 04 2500HD. There is about 6-8in clearence from the tire to the exhaust pipe. I was wondering if this would cause any problems with the tire from the heat coming off the exhaust pipe. If so I may get some of the heat shield wrap for headers and make a heat shield for it. 90% of my driving is 30 mins to work and will actually go down to about 10 mins in a month or two with the occasional 4hr trip. Any thoughts?

Have the exhaust re-routed. It may seem like a lot to do, but when you "need" that spare, you NEED that spare.

 

We just got through with an engine swap in our competition rock crawler. Had to make a custom exhaust and wrapped the part that came near the cab thinking that would keep the heat down, WRONG! You could light a cigarette on the tranny tunnel after an eight minute run.
